I’m also curious about this.  My Gyno reassured me it wouldn’t affect fertility but I’m a little nervous about it.  I plan to keep it until it “expires” in 2 years and see if we are ready then but I think I might go with a less permanant form of BC next time since we will be nearing the age we want to TTC by then.

Following!

I had my Mirena for five years and then got a new one placed a year ago. We just got married 3 weeks ago and will probably wait 2 more years until we TTC but I’ve got baby fever 🤒 and I am really curious for other Bee’s experiences.

I had mirena! I had mirena removed in May 2014, to track my cycles and give things time to settle down (i have PCOS) before TTC. August 2014 I was pregnant, first cycle officially trying. After DS was born, I went back to mirena. I had it removed last year to start TTC #2, but then life changed and we werent able to start trying until now. IMO it doesnt affect fertility, but i wouldn’t try to get pregnant immediately after removal, Ive heard to wait to try after the first post-removal AF so the lining of your uterus is better prepared for baby.

It took me 40+ days to get my first period and 6 months to concieve post removal.  We got pregnant really easily with #1 but I found it took ages to regulate post IUD the second time.

mrsmbeegee :  i had no period for 3.5 years while i was on it, i waited for the first period post removal so I could start temping on a true cycle day one. my temps were more erratic, but i did ovulate the first true cycle after removal.

mrsmbeegee :  I had my Mirena the full 5 years until it expired, and never had a period while it was in. My period returned within 2 weeks of removal and was regular 28-30 days. Once I got my first period I started tracking ovulation and my cycle. I continued to track it for the 2.5 years we were NTNP. We then were TTC for almost a year when we finally got pregnant, but it ended as an Ectopic at roughtly 6 weeks.

I don’t think my Mirena had anything to do with how long it took us to conceive or the loss. If anything, everyone I know that has had an IUD has had an easier experience then on other forms of OC like the pill. Fertility is the luck of the draw, and I ended up with the short stick.

I’d suggest just picking an app to track (I use PinkPad) and buy some OPK’s, so that you’re prepared fow when you have it removed.
