Ooooh, I LOVE to plan!  I came off hormonal birth control the fall before we started trying (about 8 months prior, mostly because my prescription was up) and started charting for a few months to see if my body would begin to ovulate on its own.

I charted for maybe 3 months as I regulated, and we used condoms to prevent pregnancy.

We had a month in mind to start trying, so I got back into charting again about 2 months before hand.

I had planned to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility and start using OPKs if our first cycle didn’t work, but apparently I married Mr. One Shot Wonder and we’re expecting a bundle of joy this April 🙂

Oh derp, I meant to suggest also getting caught up on your annual pap smear/cooch snoop exam as well as any vaccinations just to be safe.  Also, I started prenatal vitamins about 2-3 months prior to trying.

Hi fellow teacher! I laughed at you being a planner, just because I am the same way. Darling Husband and I are on a similar schedule to you. We’re hoping to start TTC in May. I had an appointment with my OBGYN earlier this month and it really put me at ease over a lot of things. I was told to go off BC in March. She said that it does get out of your system fairly quickly. I also got a prescription for prenatal vitamins. She recommended the prescription because their levels of vitamins and nutrients were a little higher than the OTC brand (plus, I get them for free at my local grocery store–bonus!)

We also talked about my health history and the OBGYN did a quick exam to see if there would be any complications. So far, everything seems good, so now, we’re just trying to be patient until May! I definitely recommend making an appointment. She also sent us home with a bunch of information, which was very helpful. Good luck!

This is what I did…

Came off the pill in april/may of 2012 and started charting (temperature) around that same time. We used charting to avoid the fertile window, and my cycles were pretty wonky until about August. We got married September 1st and started trying right away, we got pregnant that cycle when I ovulated.. roughly around the 18th. I’m almost 21 weeks pregnant now.

Charting is an amazing tool, and giving yourself some months off from the pill will give your body a chance to really regulate. I would get off the pill now but if you feel more comfortable waiting until after March, that’s still plenty of time too.

Good luck!!

Hello there, fellow summer TTC-er! Darling Husband and I are planning to start in June and I’ll be going off the BC when my prescription refills run out which is NEXT MONTH (eep!). From there, I’m planning to track my cycles and try to get a good idea of what is “normal” for me in terms of ovulation and cycle length. While we are stopping BC next month, we will be using that information to try to avoid the fertile days since I have some major dental work that won’t be finished until around May. Good for you in starting the prenatals early and I totally get your planning instincts! I’m also a planner and I know that researching everything can help to make you less anxious about the future!

I would come off the pill now. Buy the book “Taking Charge of Your Fertility”, and start temping and charting. The longer you give your body to regulate the better 🙂 Good luck!

We are planning to start TTCing in the mid/end of May.  I am currently on the pill.  I started in in November and will be going off after this pack which ends in the middle of February.  I have been taking my prenatals since the begining of January.  Right now our main focus is to get healthy and save save save.  We are both a little heavier than we would like so we would like to try and shed a few lbs and get into a healthy workout routine before we start to TTC.  We also have been working on saving as much money as possible.  We will be using condoms in Feb, March, and April.  We would like to try sooner than May, but I’m nervous that pregnancy may make me sick and I don’t want to be sick in Europe!!  We are so excited.  Good luck everyone!

@MrsBG:  We have the same plan (except we will start TTC with the June cycle)! I hope to see you all on the POAS boards around that time! Isn’t it so exciting to feel like it’s really happening soon??
