@MrsJ19:  Hi! Welcome to the world of TTC! Conception can only take place when ovulation takes place. Some women ovulate on a very regular schedule, others are more sporadic, and yet others don’t ovulate at all for one reason or another. Your “fertile” days are the time that you will most likely get pregnant, but having unprotected sex outside of your fertile window can potentially result in pregnancy as well. But like you said, your fertile days are when you are most likely to conceive.

Since you’re just starting out, I would recommend getting the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It is super helpful and really helped me understand what exactly my body was doing at what point of my cycle.

Good luck!

@shimmerofheaven:  I second all of this, especially getting a copy of TCOYF. It is eye-opening and a real help.

Good luck!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Agreed in full! If you don’t want to invest money into the book yet, you can also just join Fertility Friend (website/app on smart phone) and do their tutorials. I am waiting until after cycle 6 to read TCOYF. I learned everything so far from Wedding Bee and Fertility Friend. =)

@MrsJ19:  I’m glad I could help! It’s really overwhelming, especially with the amount of information out there on the internet. It takes some time to get used to it! ๐Ÿ™‚

But the basics: The eggs lives for 1-2 days.  Sperm can live for up to 5.  So the days right before ovulation are best.  The sperm should already be there hanging out when the egg makes it’s appearance…

I’m learning too. I’ve only been charting for 3 weeks now.

I agree with reading TCOYF. I started reading it last month and read a bit here and there and have learned so much. This is our first month off birth control. Reading the bee is also a great source of informtion. These ladies know so much!
