hi all! newbie bee here. this week was supposed to be our first cycle TTC but Darling Husband had minor surgery last week (nothing serious, to fix a broken bone from playing football, it’s somehow always football!) and i was wondering if the pain meds he’s been on this week will make his swimmers less efficient, or less potent, or something. he’s taking fewer meds now (almost none) and i’m on CD7 so my FW is opening up soon. should we put off TTC til next month when he’s in better health? (for the record, he’s happy to try and definitely feels up to it, we’re just worried about the potential fertility issues)

@mrssinger321: There is no evidence that the short-term use of opiates has a negative effect on male fertility. Therefore, men taking a short course of opiates, for instance to control pain after surgery or a broken bone, should take these medications according to the instructions.

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s certainly not going to cause any problems, it’ll happen or it won’t, so you might as well go for it this month if that’s your plan.

I wouldn’t put off TTC! If his swimmers aren’t strong enough because of pain meds (I have no idea if that’s true or not), you just won’t get pregnant this month. But no point in not trying – you never know!
