@Soon2BeMrsPea: I think the biggest factor with TTC and fibroids is where they are located and how big they are.  When they are large enough to distort the shape of your uterus, or they are growing inside the uterine cavity itself, I believe, is when it can be problematic for TTC.

I have a smallish one on my right side, but it’s within the wall of my uterus, so the doctor’s said it wouldn’t pose a problem for TTC (and I am now pg).  I think they are very common and many women don’t know that they have them until they have an ultrasound.

Good luck!

I just had my 2nd myo becaus I had 5 fibroids that distorted my uterus.  Well I actually had a total of 11 and w/out the surgery, implantation would be impossible. My 1st myo was due to the degeneration of a grapefruit sized fibroid outside of my uterus.  I know a # of sistas who conceived w/out any problems while others needed surgery.  If you need more info about your choices regarding having surgery, which surgery options are best, etc, just PM me.   Information is key.

We got pregnant twice but also miscarriage both times while I had fibroids. The drs first thought I had 3 all smaller then 6 cm but when I had my ab myo in July we found 8…2 were 6 inches, 2-4 inches, 2- about 2 inches and the rest were less then an inch. All of my fibroids where in the muscle lining. We first started ttcing in 2006 our pregnancies were in 2010 and 2011. We have now been ttcing again since Sep after getting the ok after surgery.

It is possible to get pregnant with fibroids though so dont lose hope..There are fibroid groups and pregnant with fibroid groups on babycenter.com

The size and location are key. I had over a dozen fibroids (4 of which were softball size!) removed through an abdominal myomectomy a year ago after a miscarriage. We aren’t sure if I miscarried due to the fibroids or not, but I opted to have the surgery since I had so many and figured it would pose a big risk while ttc. Plus I was bloated, had pelvic pressure, peed non-stop and had some pain. So the fibroids had to go! I had’t realized I had them until the miscarriage. Some of them grew during pregnancy, because I didn’t have symptoms before that. Hormones during the 1st trimester can cause fibroids to grow much larger. And if pregnant with fibroids you can have severe pain and there are possible risks. Be sure to research these things with credible sources and ask your doctor. Many women, though, are able to conceive with fibroids and go on to have a healthy baby. Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck to you. 🙂

Did your doctor recommend surgery or leaving it alone? Hopefully, it won’t interfere with ttc. As I said before, though, please do research on fibroids and getting pregnant and pregnancy. I’m not saying this will happen to you, but one of my fibroids was completely entangled with my right tube and I had to have it removed. The surgery then caused scar tissue which damaged my left tube. Becuase of all this, I’m now faced with IVF or no baby at all. So please stay on top of it and ask your doctor what he thinks about it! I’m not saying all this to scare you, because my situation was certainly a bad one and most of the time this doesn’t happen, but just please do research and be informed. 🙂

I know a bee on here who had a baby last year (Shout out to Ms. Pascua!!) while dealing with a few fibroids. Hopefully she’ll stop on and see this thread. I believe she found out about the fibroids after already finding out she was pregnant. She had a healthy baby!

I would find out where exactly the fibroid is located. If it is intramural (on the wall), that isn’t as bad or bad at all sometimes. But if it is inside the uterus, then you must have it removed before ttc. Keep me posted! Also, there is a great fibroid forum that I belong to that has lots of info. You’ll find some great info online!

I just found the post she made below under related topics: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/ermpregnant-with-fibroids

Wow, I just saw that I posted on that thread that I knew nothing about fibroids.  I believe she wrote that post only about a month before I found out I had fibroids!! But that’ll give you some info, I think.

@squeak3 I recently had a miscarriage and still don’t know the lying cause. I had a degeneration to one of fibroids 2 weeks prior and all 3 of my fibroids was told weren’t I the way prior to the degeneration. Can you tell me why you had to har a myo for the degenrating fibrpid b4 you could TTC again?
