Our PCOS timeline:

Dec 2010-Oct 2011 (10 months) – Naturally TTC with charting and Metformin, 2000mg.
Oct 2011-April 2012 (7 months) – Clomid (25mg – no O, 50mg – no O, 100mg – O! 100mg – O! 100mg – no O.)
April 2012 – IVF #1
July 2012 – IVF #2

I know a lot of doctors tend to stop Clomid after 6 cycles so that it doesn’t interfere with your lining – so that part of your timeline might need looking at.

Also, as someone who’s gone through ridiculously long cycles without ovulation, definitely watch those. My doctors used to let me get to 35 days and then I’d take progesterone tablets to induce a period.

Not TTC yet.  I’ve used Mirena IUD for the last 3+ years but would love to come off of it in the next 6 months. Getting married next month.  I have the baby fever, but I never wanted to get pregnant with my ex-husband.

Now I am 34.  My cycles were most consistently 42 days long when not on BCP (during my teen years and a few years off BCP in my 20s).  My dermatologist was actually the one who ‘diagnosed’ PCOS about 5 years ago, but still, it was just a conglomeration of symptoms.  Last year at my annual exam, I expressed my concerns with TTC in the near future with my GYN but she wouldn’t even address it until I actively try.  I hope to achieve pregnancy right away (at age 35) but I worry my provider will make me try for a while before doing any diagnostics.  Sorry for rambling.

I have PCOS, too.

We did:

  • 8 months of NTNT (May-Dec 2010)
  • 6 months TTC trying to regulate my cycle with diet and exercise (Jan-June 2011)
  • 1 month off (July 2011)
  • 3 cycles of Clomid (Aug-Oct 2011)
  • 2 months off (Nov-Dec 2011)
  • 3 cycles of Femara (Jan-March 2012)
  • 1 month off (April 2012)
  • 1 last cycle of Femara (May 2012)
  • 1 month off (June 2012)

Now we are back to Clomid for one-two cycles. Our future plans are for one cycle of injectables, then if that doesn’t work, save more until we can do another (3-4 months to save). I could see us doing as many as three inject cycles. After that, I’m not sure. Maybe a break. Maybe look into adoption. Who knows?

@katiebugbug:  Yup! If left alone, my periods come at random times. Highest wait was 120+ before we induced one, and ‘normally’ – we’re looking at 60 days +. It’s not good for your lining to go that long without periods, which is why most RE’s will do 35/40 days maximum before starting a period for you.

Spacing Clomid out over 12 months sounds like a good plan. 🙂

@katiebugbug:    That seems like they are waiting for there to be a problem before fixing it!  Ugh.  I wouldn’t be happy with knowing that they don’t want to do anything until the very last moment if it could lead to cancerous or even precancerous cells possibly being formed before they would do something.  >.<  It is very strange with that and with so much else too!
