I have terrible allergies and I’ve sworn off meds for the 9 months since we started TTC but I’m not sure I can do a whole summer with no meds. Do any of you know from your doctors if there are any that are safe? I know with Benadryl it can dry up your CM. I’ll suffer if I have to but something for emergencies or vacations would be great! Thanks!

My doctor says that both Claratin and Benedryl are safe to take. Although if you’re really adament about not taking meds, try a saline nasal spray or a Nettie Pot.
ETA: To clarify, these are meds that are safe to take while pregnant. Technically, you can take whatever you want right now. 🙂

I’ve always suffered from bad hayfever all through spring and summer, and always took antihistamines for months on end. But I’ve been taking 2 ‘Horseradish, Garlic and Vitamin C’ tablets daily for the past 18 months or so, and haven’t had to take any antihistamines since I started. I call them my magic cure!! Here is Aus there is a Blackmore’s brand and its labelled “Super Strength – Sinus” or something.
I’m still TTC, but from what I’ve read I’ll be able to keep taking these throughout pregnancy too…
Not sure if that helps??

I have terrible allergies and get allergy shots. I’m pregnant, and my allergist switched me from Allegra to Zyrtec. I wouldn’t suffer through summer allergies while TTC. I can’t even imagine! Talk to your doctor about a safe choice and for goodness sake, take something, at least until you conceive!

You can take anything while TTC. Unfortunately, now that I am pregnant I had to stop by allergy shots 🙁

@MissMusic: Really? My midwife said to go ahead and keep going, my allergist is just holding me at a steady dose and lengthening the time between.

Antihistimines can make it difficult to get pregnant because they dry up your CM. I switched to a nasal allergy mist like Flonase.
