I wrote a few posts about Turkey a few months back, so wanted to tell everyone that we spent 16 days in Turkey for our honeymoon and it was SPECTACULAR!
Easy to get around, everyone was super helpful and friendly, even though we spoke very little Turkish, awesome food, and AMAZING things to see, especially in the low season. And we spent MUCH less than we would have for most other European destinations.
3 days in Cappadocia – a mountainous region with spectacular scenery (we did a horseback ride) and very cool historic Christian sites
2 days in Fethiye – beautiful Aegean-coast town with stunning beach lagoon we had all to ourselves. A little too cold to swim but OK to wade and we took a paddle boat out!
1 day in Pamukkale – historic Roman ruins and “terraced” hot springs that are really a once in a lifetime sight.. incredible.
1 day each in Ephesus and Bergama – also ancient Roman cities with amazing relics… you can see temple and theater ruins that are from BC times.
1 day in Troy… yes the historic Troy, you can still see the city walls and the gate that was in the Iliad, and look over the plains where the Trojan war happened.
4 days in Istanbul..which is only enough to really scratch the surface, we could have spent the whole 2 weeks in Istanbul and not seen everything, but we got a great taste of it.
Plus some travel time between cities.. we were on the road a lot but it didn’t feel too busy.. we saw a TON of great sights and it was kind of nice to have down time sitting on a bus or train.
We’re already talking about going back for our ten-year anniversary, maybe!
Just wanted to say I would recommend it to anyone, and feel free to ask if you have questions..
