So I’m turning 25 in just under a month (March 19th! :)) and I decided to do something BIG!
Originally, I was going to keep my hair super long until after the wedding and then chop it off. My only rule was to trim the ends whenever my hair would grow down to my butt. Now that the time has come for me to get a trim, I decided to get a full blown haircut and colour done! I feel like there are so many changes that I’m currently experiecing in my life (98% good) and it’s really making me want to “freshen up” my look and do something big to celebrate my 25th birthday!
I haven’t cut my hair in almost 8 years and I’ve only gotten 3 trims since, so this is a BIG deal for me and I’m kinda super nervous because I’m afraid I will regret the haircut as soon as I see my hair falling onto the floor of the salon haha. I love my long hair but I think it would be nice to not have it get caught in the straps of my purse, spend less time in the shower, and have nicer curls (my hair is so long that it barely holds a curl anymore and I used to be able to run around all day with my pretty curls when I had shorter hair).
Here are a couple of photos of my hair for reference:
And these are my hair inspirations for the cut and colour:
I showed my husband the photos and told him how much hair I want to cut off (I will be asking for around the same length as the photos) and his response was “you won’t even be cutting THAT much hair off!” to which I responded with an eyeroll LOL. I know my hair will still be medium length but to me it will feel super short. Men just don’t understand how big of a deal this is for some of us gals!
Seeing as my hubby is no help and I have a whole week before my hair appointment, I really need some moral support from my fellow Bees. Please share stories of your own extreme hair makeovers and whether or not you ever experienced “hair regret”. 🙂

I agree with your husband, it’s not that much hair. Maybe I was just never attached to my hair, but I went from the length in the bottom right picture to a pixie cut, and I’ve never looked back at long hair since.

Girl, do it. I’ve had everything from super short (think halle berry back in the day, my hair is really curly like hers) to down to my bum. I’ve had it every color under the sun. The key is reminding yourself that it will be fine. As my friend’s mom used to say, “it doesn’t take talent to grow back hair, dogs do it every day”.
You’ll look fabulous! Enjoy!

I have very long hair, down to my butt. Like you, I pretty much never cut it, just a trim like once a year. I have cut it a few times in my life though. I’ve cut it short, like to my shoulders before. I totally regretted that. I’ve also cut it mid back (like your photos) and it wasn’t so bad, but I still wanted to grow it back out again asap. I just like my hair long. Funny enough, DH likes it really long too and doesn’t even like it when I get a trim.
With that said, I think that the photos that you showed are really pretty and will look great on you.

Haha, that’s exactly my hair (just not as bright blonde on the ends as the first pic). I’m obviously biased, but I’m in favor of the change. And having had my hair much longer before as well, I can say this is a much easier length to manage, especially with the short layers. And almost everyone else still sees this length as long hair.

Do it! It will look great! I would recommend asking for less cut off than you actually want initially in case a) the stylist is scissor happy and/or b) you do start to freak out during the process. And show us your “after” photos!

i actually did this almost exact cut in terms of how much length was being taken out, and how long it took for me to make the change from long to “medium” length hair. i LOVED it and was surprised at how much lighter my head felt and how quick it become to shampoo and dry my hair! over the first week of having my new hair, and curling it for the first time, i was sooo happy with the way the layers sat and had such a dimension! you’re going to have so much fun 🙂

It doesn’t look like you’re getting bangs, but if they try to convince you, be sure you’d either have enough time to grow out for your wedding hair or work with them for the hair! My hair is like yours and I was convinced into bangs one time and it was so hard to keep up, and then I had prom to go to and it was a disaster! (bangs are not good on me! lol)

I definitely would not call that an extreme hair makeover in terms of cut or color. It really looks more like a freshening up of your look instead of a major change to your look. However, I think these subtle changes will look great on you, especially the addition of the long long layers.

Thanks Bees!! I’m soooo excited I actually called to see if they had an earlier appointment but they didn’t so I have to wait until Friday. EEEEK! 🙂
To those who said it’s not an extreme hair makeover, THANK YOU! Sometimes I get so caught up in how much I love my hair (and how attached I am to it) that I lose perspective and think that this change is bigger than it is. I feel so much better now haha. Yay!
I actually thought about it because I loved having long bangs before but I also really love being able to pull my hair back and I think bangs would annoy me at the gym as I’m not very good with bobby pins, so I’m staying away from them this time around. 😉

I went from waist-length hair to bob! Didn’t regret it at all, LOVED my short hair and actually it suited me better. I could also do all the cute vintage curls styles that I couldn’t do with my super long hair.
Now it’s grown back to just over shoulder-length. As PP said, doesn’t take too long for hair to grow back. Enjoy your lovely new hairdo!

I was married in January 2014 and turned 30 a year later. I said I would chop my hair off before turning 30. Nope, I didn’t. I’ve gotten attached to it being long, now to my waist. I still say I will chop it at some point.

I did that, too! No cutting in stages for me, chop it all off! Lol! Now it’s to my shoulders again.
I don’t think that’s much off at all so you won’t be too traumatized. :-p
