I don’t think ushers need to be in tux’s. If they were Groomsmen, then yes, they would need to be in all the same attire. Otherwise, I don’t think it matters.

I agree; I don’t think the ushers need to be in tux’s. Their boutennieres wil identify them, and they won’t be standing up at the front with the rest, so I don’t think it’s necessary.

I don’t think anyone will care that the ushers don’t match the GMs (not even you, because you’ll be too excited on your wedding day!). Plus, if they are wearing suits that they already own, then they’ll feel comfortable and look good, which will help them blend right in.

Out of curiosity, what color are the suits, shirts, and ties they want to wear? Any traditional color suit will blend in with your color scheme (men’s clothes are awesome that way). You might ask them to get a shirt and tie that coordinates with your wedding colors, so that they don’t accidentally wear something that clashes. Maybe they could even coordinate their ties so that it’s clear they are part of the wedding party, but in a different capacity than the GMs. A pocket square would help dress the suit up, too, and you can get those super cheap or even make them.

If you absolutely hate their suits, could you pay to rent tuxes or suits for them in a color that you do like?

@sshanks82:  I think that’s your call. It’s a personal preference.

I agree – I would go ahead and let them wear suits.  It’s up to you if you want them to be in the pictures.  I had separate pictures including my ushers and with just the core bridal party.  Either way, they don’t necessarily have to match!  Or you could give them an accessory (tie, socks, pocket square, etc) that matches or complements the other groomsmen.  I think the pictures would look cute like that too!

I agree with PPs.  As ushers, they can wear suits and it won’t look weird.

Oh yeah, charcoal suits will match literally any color scheme.
