My fiance has his heart set on buying a Hugo Boss tuxedo with a peak lapel. I think it looks great on him, but after speaking to a salesman about the tendency for the point on peak lapels to bend and wear out (for lack of better word), I’m concerned about investing so much money on one. A traditional notch lapel isn’t as trendy, but at least we know the lapel will age better.
Does anybody have experience with peak lapel tuxedos? Do the pointy corners get ragged over time?

Actually, the notch lapel is a fairly recent phenomenon (last 20 years or so) while the peak lapel is the traditional tuxedo. According to etiquette sticklers, tuxedos by definition have peak lapels.
Notch lapels are more popular, I think for much the same reason that strapless wedding dresses are more popular- it’s what is most readily available.
The concern about the peak bending or wearing out shouldn’t be too much of a concern, in my mind, unless you are wearing it all the time- like 2+ times a month.
