@edgebee:  Lol one of my cousin’s nicknames is Buffy. She’s in her forties and had it all her life so I know it has nothing to do with the show, but I had no idea people were actually naming their kids this! It’s funny that people are playing dumb like they came up with some of these names out of their butts. I just can’t get with the idea of naming my child some flavor of the week name from pop culture. The other day my dad was saying after the Russians sent up Sputnik, some people started to name their sons that…I was like wth?

@StephieBee:  haha my dog is named Rory, but it’s short for Rorschach. A lot of my friends are also avid Doctor Who fans and always think my dog is a boy thanks to that Rory, so I have to keep repeating “Girl Rory, like in Gilmore Girls!” Even though she is not even named after Rory from Gilmore Girls, since she was named after Rorschach inkblot tests because she is covered in weirdly-shaped big spots like inkblots. But it’s easier to get people to remember it by connecting it to Gilmore Girls, haha.

But… I’ve never watched Twilight or Dr. Who or Arrested Development or Game of Thrones.  Seriously.  If I name my kids Jim and Pam – guilty (though my Dad’s name is Michael).  But there are only so many names you can give a tv character, too.  I probably do have favorite names that have been sullied by some stupid tv show.  Oh well.

I really liked the name Alaric until I realized it was on a popular WB show :/

I was named after a character on an 80’s show, so I feel your pain. It’s annoying.

@distracts:  my dog is named rory, too! He’s a boy but my mom insisted because she loves gilmore girls.  Now people ask if we named him after the pro golfer Rory McElroy.

@distracts:  Haha, my brain just exploded. DUH GILMORE GIRLS. I was reading this post originally and was like, I SWEAR I’ve never heard it anywhere else! I guess I wasn’t too into Gilmore Girls since it didn’t stick, haha.

My daughter is named after an actress that my husband always said I look like.  We admit it freely!  I think it’s cool :). The people who play dumb, like the PP who said a mommy blogger had no clue Cullen was the Twilight character’s name, are just for some reason in denial…. which is weird because then why would you have picked the name in the first place??

Oh and wanted to add that I don’t think the names Piper and Willow have gained popularity these days from Buffy and Charmed – I think Piper is hot right now because of Piper Middleton and Willow went up on the name boards after the Sarah Palin craze (one of her daughters is Willow).

I always liked the name Trent. I’d have no shame in admitting who my kid was named after – Trent Reznor (lead singer of my favourite band). Unfortunately Fiance hates it so it’s a no go :/

@BearyLovely:  just FYI its actually pippa Middleton , short for Phillipa. Not piper. 🙂 piper is a weird name I dunno why it’s popular. We got maried at Trents winery and now I like the name Trent for a boy haha!

id name my kid after a character if the name and character were awesome!! And I’d own it!!

@SapphireSun:  I agree, Fiance and I want to name our daughter (if we have one) Isabella. We both liked the name before even the Twilight books came out. So sometimes you do hear it somewhere else but it is also the name of a character in something
