Since my fiance and I plan to buy a house in the next few months (fingers crossed!!), we have been having “friendly” arguments about a TV in the bedroom.
I have never had a TV in my room and honestly have never missed it. I always thought it was kind of weird when I went over my friend’s houses and they had TVs in their room. My parents never had a TV in their room, neither did my sister, etc.
I also can’t stand sitting on the floor watching TV or lying in bed watching TV, which to me totally negates the purpose of having one there!
Fiance has ALWAYS had a TV in his room. He claims he can’t sleep without one on. Yet he always complains about how his neck hurts from watching TV at odd angles. (rolls eyes).
When we have our own place, we will have 2 TVs. One will go in the living room. Fiance wants the 2nd TV in OUR bedroom. I say no way. I want it in the guest room or family room/basement/office if we have one.
Most people think it’s weird that I don’t want a TV in my/our room. So … is this really that odd?
Do you guys have a TV in your room? Did you have any disagreements like this? I’m curious.

I had a TV in my room growing up and Darling Husband and I have one in there now. We had a similar issue recently though.
Darling Husband needs a show/movie playing so he can go to bed. He’s always been that way. Whereas I like to go to bed in silence. We have a huge (47 inch) tv in our room that blares bright and I have trouble falling asleep when it’s on. We have argued many times about it, I didn’t think it was fair that I had to have trouble falling asleep every night.
BUT recently Darling Husband bought himself a 7 inch tablet, so he props that up on his nightstand and keeps the volume low. Now I have no problems going to sleep.
Maybe you can put the 2nd tv somewhere else and he can get a tablet or something when he wants to watch TV in the bedroom?

We do, but honestly we don’t use it much. We watch the other two in the living rooms way more.

No. Bedroom is for sex and sleep 🙂

I don’t want one there but SO does. I have to inform him that the bedroom is only for two things as jmaze mentioned. I have a more difficult time falling asleep with the tv on.

We have one, but we didn’t always. We don’t have one in the living room because we have a big screen projector in there…it’s a bit overkill if you’re just watching a tv show, and it’s expensive to replace the light bulbs, so we really only use it for movies. I LOVE getting in my jammies and laying in bed with TV…but even when I did only have a TV i the living room, I hated sitting, I’ve always preferred lying down to watch TV.

I didn’t vote, because we have one, but I think it’s been used once in 1.5 years. I don’t mind it being there, but it’s really just for when he is out of town and I have trouble falling asleep. Honestly though, I just use my lap top for those purposes, so I don’t even use it then. I had a TV in my room growing up and love falling asleep to movies (actually, Fiance makes fun of me that I always fall asleep when the TV is on and I get comfy on the couch!). He can’t fall asleep with really any light at all.

We have one in the bedroom (because we had 2 tv’s when I moved in) We watch most of our TV in the living room, but I do like being able to watch tv in bed. To prevent the neck hurting from watching at odd angles I just stack up my pillows and sit up (while Darling Husband falls asleep since he gets up early) OR I use one of these things I’ve always called a ‘husband pillow’
it’s nice so that we can both spread out and watch tv (since we don’t have a big couch yet) Plus if I’m sick I can just snuggle in bed and put a nice movie on! I also like how I’m not chilling out in the living room later at night by myself when Darling Husband wants to go to bed. I just go to the bedroom and finish watching my shows while Darling Husband falls asleep. He can fall asleep to anything. Me I have to have the TV OFF once I want to go to bed.

No television in our bedroom, ever. That’s a sanctuary of quiet and peace.

Darling Husband and I agreed early on that our bedroom is only for sex and sleeping.

We’ve never had one in our room and don’t want one. I’d rather have a bookshelf and/or fireplace in our room. 🙂

We only had one TV when we moved into our house and it is in the living room. I loved that we agreed about not having one in our bedroom. I feel like it makes sleep (and sex) better and it also makes our home feel simpler, slower and promotes more time together. I’d like to get an iHome radio in there at sometime though, for when I’m putting away laundry or getting ready. 🙂
However, when my husband is on night shift and I have trouble sleeping, I do use my iPad to watch some TV shows.

I have one in there right now, but we haven’t moved in together yet. I have a lot of trouble falling asleep alone and the sound is soothing. However, he’s moving in on March 1st and we have already decided it is LEAVING. Just like @the boss of you:
said, sex and sleeping only!

We do, and we love it. We watch the news/weather in the morning while getting ready, as well as winding down before bed. I have to have it on to sleep, as well, and Darling Husband doesn’t mind.

We used to have one and I never will again. As PP said, a bedroom is for sleep & sex and when we had a TV in our room both of those were disrupted.
