Anyone have suggestions for a courthouse in or around the Twin Cities that is a little more attractive than the Hennepin County courthouse?
Also looking for suggestions/tips on getting married at a courthouse in MN. Do you pay the judge to marry you? Do you exchange rings at a civil ceremony? Do you have to pay for the time you use the courtroom? How far in advance do you need to notify the courthouse that you want to be married there?

I’m not positive, but I think you have to schedule it like a hearing. Here’s the Hennepin County website with some info http://www.mncourts.gov/district/4/?page=1784. Most of the courthouses are pretty, um, utilitarian. The Ramsey County Courthouse in St. Paul has sort of an art deco feel, if that works for you. You could do some photos up the way at the Capital after!

Thank you for the suggestion and the link! I’ll have to go check out the Ramsey County Courthouse!
We may be getting married on the cheap but that doesn’t mean the ceremony can’t have a little class and magic too. 🙂

@nihilist: How was the wedding at the Ramsey Courthouse? Fiance and I are having a courthouse wedding, and I’m curious to hear about any experiences!
