Obviously take everything you read online with a grain of salt, but I’ve read a few studies suggesting that there is an increased chance of twins if you conceive shortly after stopping hormonal birth control. There are also studies that claim to debunk this. The basis of the studies suggesting an increased chance of twins is that you can hyperovulate and release multiple eggs until your body’s natural hormones regulate.
Has anyone here conceived twins (or more) naturally right after stopping birth control?
I got pregnant less than a month after 7 years of being on progestin in one form or another. I had no periods at all the entire time. Twins also run in my family. My maternal grandmother had 2 consecutive sets of fraternal twins. (She had 5 children in diapers at the same time!) I know odds are still pretty low, but it’s fun to think about and I’m anxiously awaiting my first ultrasound.

All I know is gods bless your grandmother and her mental health because 5 babies in diapers at the same time sounds like a nightmare I end up living for doing something I wasn’t supposed to. Was your grandfather super hands on? Did she have lots of other family around who helped out a lot?
I got pregnant the first time after years of being on birth control and only had one but I was concerned about that until they confirmed for me (three times!) that only the one baby was present. Twins run in both our families, though, and we’re currently working on #2 and even though I’ve been off birth control for a while, I’m still concerned about having twins.
Good luck with your ultrasound!

My grandfather was a WWII veteran with severe PTSD who turned to drinking to cope, so as far as I know he wasn’t the most involved. He was a paratrooper so he also had lots of back problems from jumping out of planes. My mom was the oldest of 7 and was forced to take on a lot of responsibilities a child/teen should never have as a result. My grandmother’s extended family all lived in a different state, so my mom was her biggest source of help

I could have written this myself. Also pregnant straight after stopping BCP, Awaiting first scan anxiously to see if there is just the one!

I got pregnant a few weeks after stopping BCP (I was on it for 16 years) with one baby. I was 29. I have fraternal twin brothers but my mom was 34-35 when she got pregnant with them so it is more likely she had twins due to her age. Thankfully my second baby at 32 was also a singleton

I’m a twin and just getting off birth control, so will be interesting to see if we get pregnant with twins! My ob/gyn did say that you’re more likely to get pregnant with twins right off the pill.
My brother and I were conceived right after a miscarraige – turns out there’s also a higher chance of multiples the first or second cycle after a loss which I found interesting!
