I knew this would happen! I get sick in October each and every year. I’ve been taking vitamins religously since August (mostly vitamin C) and the last two weeks I’ve been doing airborne regularly. I felt sick last weekend with a sore throat and went to the doctor for a strep test…it was negative and he said it was something viral. I felt fine a day later. Now fast forward to three days later and I woke up absolutely miserable. Sore throat, chills, extremely exhausted, headache and just not at all feeling myself. I barely made it through work before running to the store for some zinc and oil of oregno.
I’m so upset, I’m on the verge of tears. I did everything I could to keep my immune system up and it just backfired on me. Any suggestion on what now? Should I try and make it to a walk in clinic tomorrow? Or hope a good night’s sleep does the trick? Like I said, I’ve been so good about the vitamin c, the sleep, and the zinc so not sure how this happened. If I feel like this on Saturday I’m going to be so upset.

Any fever for sweats? Take some tylenol. Ibuprofen for headaches/body aches. Hard candy for sore throat plus warm salt water gurgles. Drink a ton of water. REST. go to bed early tonight. If it is vital, antibiotics will not help. If you’re coughing up green/yellow or blowing your nose that color it could be bacterial. If you are not better tomorrow then go to a clinic. You definitely don’t want to feel this way on your wedding day!!!! Good luck, Bee

nicholestafins921: You need A LOT of sleep, and keep yourself nice and warm….
I am so sorry to hear you are sick.
Nyquil usually does the trick for me, it helps me pass out and get a lot of sleep.
Good luck!!!! And REST!!!!

Buy coldeeze zinc lozengers. That and a lot of fluids will greatly shorten your sickness. Coldeeze coats your throat and doesn’t allow germs to grow on your throat- a bug just went through my family some of us took them and others did not. The ones that took them were sick for 2 days, the others were sick for 3 weeks!

That’s awful! Totally my luck too, and my sons. He’s been healthy and happy for months and now the day before halloween he’s a runny coughing mess. Poor kiddo. Lots of sleep and hydration should do the trick. Two days is long enough to recover!

I wouldn’t recommend this normally – but being your wedding day I’d contact your doctor and ask for a steroid shot. I’m no doctor and I know it’s best to let things run it’s course, so take this with a grain of salt but that’s what I’d be doing. It will make you temporarily feel better

nicholestafins921: I would say to definitely get as much rest as you possbily can, and take some of the ideas that other PPs have stayed – contact your doctor, up vitamins, cold meds, etc. 🙁
I had a cold a few weeks before our wedding last year, and it came back right before the wedding. It wasn’t horrible, but nothing you want to deal with when everything was going to be outside (pics, ceremony)! I was actually fine the day of, but had NO voice the next day. I am not sure if that was related or not, but it was odd. It took a few days to come back, too.

nicholestafins921: This happened to me! Literally two days before my wedding it started. I took alot of Zicam, Airborne, Vitamin C… ate a ton of soup, rested- took hot baths. You name it- I did it. Honestly, the ONLY thing that helped me survive was Dayquil and Afrin. I WAS sick and miserable on my wedding day. Try and rest, take it easy and if you feel like you’re not getting better then go to the doc and see what they say. I hope you feel better for your big day!

nicholestafins921: Zinc is clinically proven to be a cold aid. Buy some zinc lozenges or Zicam and start using it.

So sorry to hear this bee!!! I am praying this doesnt happen to me – its the stress!!! I will share some of my grandmas homemade tricks that always helped a sickly me 🙂 Be careful please as some of these can be tricky.
Here are some old maid Russian home remedies that my grandmother swears by:
– Boil a pot of water and get an umbrella and a sheet ready. Put the sheet on the umbrella, and put yourself and the boiling pot inside it and breath in the vapors. Try adding some chamomile or ecualputus to the water.
– If feverish, rub alcohol or vodka over your body, esp the bottoms of your feet, your forehead, and inside your elbows. This will help the heat escape your body and lower your temperature. Also, take a whole lemon, put some sugar on a plate and eat as many slices as you can WITH the RIND! lowers fever!
– To clear your sinuses, try a netti pot and try to clean out your nose right after the vapors breathing thing.
– If you have a health food store near you, see if you can get your hands on some mustard patches. Russians cured all things with mustard pathches on your back and chest – for like 20 minutes. Put a paper between yourself and the wet mustard patch not to burn the skin!
Feel better soon!
