The first one is beautiful. I think with the alterations you mention though, the second one would look amazing. The first is lovely, but very “typical” right now, not that that’s bad! I just think the second one screams quality.

I adore silk satin dresses but because you’re talking about a complete overhaul in the Dress #2’s construction, I don’t think its the dress for you. I suggest you keep looking- there’s definitely beautiful satin fit and flare/trumpet gowns with lace detail out there.

Both dresses are beautiful. What really stands out to me is that the changes you want to make to the Jim Hjelm gown would not only be outrageously, insanely expensive (I was engaged the first time more than 20 years ago, and one, small, single, additional Alencon-lace applique to be added to the neckline of my gown was $50! I think you would easily add more than $2,000 to $3,000 the price of the gown) but also would not even work due to the ruching on that gown.

I absolutely LOVE the first dress! So gorgeous!

I’m the minority but love the second dress…. But I’d have to see it on to know for sure!

I think if the 2nd dress would need all the alterations you mention, it’s not the dress for you! If you think you’d like the 2nd one (as reimagined) more than #1, I think you should keep looking. 🙂

Id keep looking for a satin dress with lace that you don’t need to change 🙂

I tried on the matina it gorgeous! If I had ended up with lace it would have been my dress!

ONE! I dislike shiny satin AND your body looks amazing in the first dress

Thank you everyone for your votes! It definitely helped to hear from people other than my parents, sister-in-law, and matron of honor! I’ve decided to head down to Dallas/Ft. Worth and see the dresses again (I can take a few pics of the Jim Hjelm then) and try on a few more designers I haven’t gotten to yet (namely Lee Ann Belter). Ideally, I want a dress that doesn’t require any major alterations or additions to it – the Martina Liana gown is definitely my favorite lace dress at this time, just have to decide if I want the duchesse silk bad enough to keep looking! Thank you again Bees! Will post an update when I have one! 🙂
