My dress has a beautiful open back that hits my mid-to-low back with gorgeous lace details.
I started out wanting to an up-do to show off the back, but then got to thinking I really love my hair down so I was leaning more on having a half-do or kind of a lower, loose “updo” if that makes sense. My hair right now almost hits the small of my back, but I plan to get it cutting it about 5-6 inches, so having it down wouldn’t really cover any detailing of the lace, just some of my back. Especially with having a more natural, romantic wedding theme, I thought having my hair down versus up would be more appropriate. But NOW I’m reconsidering having my hair up because everyone says that’d be stricking with the open back, and I kind of agree. I just don’t know!! I would love opinions and bonus points if you happen to have pictures of your hair with your lower-back dress.

If you wanted your hair down you could always just push it over your shoulder when you are getting your photos taken so the back of the dress is unobstructed?
I would just go with whatever you are most comfortable with. I know I feel the best with my hair down so I would never consider an updo, but maybe you wear your hair up all the time!

I also have an open back and am doing my hair up. But my hair is really fine, so it doesn’t really hold a curl and I will be dancing, etc. all night, so I just want it off my neck! While I usually wear my hair down for going out, etc. I just prefer it up and out of my way all night! I am doing an updo with a beautiful flower piece in it, it will look similar to below!

My dress was open back and I had 2 hairstyles. Half up/down in the morning and an updo for the reception..

What about something like this, long but would be able to still see some dress detail,

What about a side swept half updo?

I did a side sweep half updo.

I have considered a side-swept style, but my dress also has a lovely bateau/sabrina neckline that I wouldn’t want covered either 🙁

My hair is somewhat fine too, and that’s the only reason that’s made me hesitate having my hair down… that’s why I’ve considered a half up or a looser style. I love your style because it’s a lower up-do and super romantic. I guess I’m just worried about having an updo that’s too high or formal looking. I think something softer would be really nice.

Whatever style you decide to go with, just make sure you get a hair trial before your wedding! I didn’t and ended up having to re-do my own hair hours before the wedding.
