I started charting last week after coming off BCP. I’m trying to be really diligent, especially this first cycle, as I’m not sure if/when I’m going to O.
To that end, I’ve been taking my temp at 5:15 a.m. every day, as that’s when Darling Husband gets up to go to the gym and I inevitably wake up for a minute or two as well. So I take my temp while half asleep and when it beeps I turn it off and put it on my bedside table (it’s too dark in our room to even read it at that time). It’s supposed to save the most recent temp.
Turns out that function only seems to work occasionally. Today is the second day in a week that my temp has completely disappeared from the thermometer’s memory and I’ve therefore been unable to chart it.
UGH! I am so frustrated!

@hergreenapples: that’s happened to me the few times I have tried temping. Is yours pink and the Target brand? (at least, I think it was the Target brand).

Nope, I’m in Canada, so no Target (yet!). It is pink though and it is a store brand from a drugstore chain. They very well could have been made by the same manufacturer.
So freaking annoying!

@hergreenapples: Is it the Life brand thermometer from Shopper’s Drug Mart (a pinkish-purple thermometer)? If so, I had the same problem.

I ordered mine from amazon. Nexcare (also pink). No problems at all!

Would you ever ask your husband to record your temp for you? Some practitioners of NFP/FAM actually recommend this because it makes family planning a mutual activity, instead of solely your responsibility.

@FutureJessicaMcB: Yes, it is! It’s driving me nuts. I’m considering taking it back, but can envision having to explain to some teenaged male store clerk the importance of having an accurate daily temp while TTC
@Leprechaun: Not something that either of us is really interested in right now…we’re not actually TTC at the moment.

@hergreenapples: I never really had to do anything about our thermometer because we got pregnant on the cycle we bought it regardless of losing temps, but when I talked to Shopper’s they told me that it actually is only supposed to store the temp for 5-10 seconds (It’d be nice if they mentioned this on the packaging, eh?).
A friend of mine got really accurate results TTA with the generic thermometer from Zellers- I think it is blue. If all else fails, you might have to bite the bullet and turn on the light for a couple of seconds to read the result and log it in your phone. Super annoying the way that particular thermomter is advertised though.

@FutureJessicaMcB: I read the instructions package that comes with it, and it is supposed to store it until the next time you turn the thermometer on.
I might try Zeller’s though and just pick up another one, because this one has caused me to yell expletives one too many times! Thanks for the suggestion.

@hergreenapples: Maybe they think us crazy TTC ladies will turn it on again in 5-10 seconds? Haha.

I keep a flashlight beside my thermometer on the nightstand so I can look at it quickly, lock in my brain and go back to sleep. I”m usually up a half hour after that and then I log it in. Wouldn’t it be great if instead of beeping for ten seconds a digital voice told you the temp? No annoying beeping, no lights required!

I quickly put the temp in my phone (iPeriod app) so I don’t lose it – then chart it later on. 🙂

@JumpingJacks: Yeah, same here. I basically look at the temp and then go back to bed. So later I have an idea what it is. Then later I double check and I think I’ve only been wrong once or twice.

How totally frustrating! The one I have does store the temp for 5 sec after you turn it on again. I wake up, put it in my mouth, wait for the beep, ( sometimes I read it, sometimes I don’t) turn it off by pressing the on/off button. Then when I am up and ready to chart I turn it on again and the display will show the last temp for about 5 sec before it resets.
I am also in canada and could find one in local stores so I ordered online from makeababy.ca
