So I got a seamstress to measure me and my top is like a size 14 but the bottom is a size 18 in dresses, my hips are huge and I have a Kim K sized bum. How the heck do I find a wedding dress when my sizes are so different? Has anyone else had this problem of having to buy a larger dress to fit bigger hips but had the top be way too big?

I had a similar problem, except my stomach was the biggest size, followed by chest, then hips. They recommended that I go with the largest size and have it altered. Most people aren’t perfectly proportional anyway… but yeah, it made me feel a little like a freak of nature.

Don’t worry about it. They just order you the largest size and alter.
I’m a street size 16. They ordered me a size 24 dress and they are taking in the waist to a dress size 18 and making the bust even larger for my giant ta-tas. Don’t freak. Your measurements aren’t that strange.
Don’t you wish we could have ALL our clothes altered like this?

My measurement are 34-27-42 so I know your pain! My top is a size 6ish and my bottom is a size 10 (huge bum haha), I had to get my dress taken in a lot at the top because it was so loose! Youll look great, with all the alterations your dress will fit like a dream. Post some pics, Im sure youre a lot harder on yourself, I bet you look great!

Don’t get me started on wedding dress sizing. I am horrified at how small they make dresses with weird measurements to boot, so not only are you buying at least a size or 2 bigger than your street size, but if you have measurements that differ greatly from the designer’s idea of whatever that size is, you have to buy an even bigger dress. I know the number doesn’t matter, but it’s the principle!

Well i had this problem with bridesmaids gowns and expect to with wedding. My mid section was say a 8 my hips were like between an 8 and a 10 according to the size chart and my chest was like a 4. I ordered an 8 but a six would have been fine. The chest had to be taken in no matter what – darn tiny boobs! I’m mallshapen anyway…
I have a long torso so the “hip area” is about 4 inches lower on me then in every dress. So I look at like mermaid styles and i think – ok well thats like almost to the knees on the model so that should come to right below my butt. LoL. Hello alterations! lol

One word….corset. With such a variance in your meaurements of course you would have to order a size to fit the largest portion of you so a corset dress will not only flatter your body but will alleviate those expensive alterations costs that you will likely face.
I am a 12 on top and 14 on the bottom and ordered a 14 with a corset. It fit me like a glove despite the difference and I didn’t have to have any alterations done.

Thanks ladies! I don’t feel so alone now. I haven’t got my dress yet, I just got measured because of a bridesmaid dress, but I just feel so disproportionate!

I agree a corset is a great idea. Unfortunately I had my mind set on a button back and Im stubborn haha that was the one thing I wasnt willing to compromise, but if a corset is something you want they fit like a dream!

I’m round. I have skinny legs, small hippos and butt, but my midsection is big and round. finding clothes to fit is hard, because I have no hips and butt to hold them up. but I got lucky on a.dress, I went with an A-line. It flares at the hiPS, and gives the optical illusion of a waist.
