(warning, long rant!!)
I bought the very first dress I tried on. I absolutely loved it – the best part was the dramatic low cut back, other people in the store would come up to me and compliment me on how amazing it looked.
I bought the sample dress at a discount – it was a bit too big, but I figured it wouldn’t be a big deal to have it altered. I found a seamstress with excellent Yelp reviews, and I asked for the waist to be taken in since it was clearly a couple of sizes too big.
Well, she took it in wayyyyy too much. On the 2nd fitting I couldn’t even start the zipper. She said, no problem, we’ll take it out. On the 3rd fitting I could only zip it halfway up. Again, she said no problem, we’ll take it out. On the 4th fitting, I still couldn’t zip it up to the top. Again, same story. On the 5th fitting, it finally zips up, but it’s still too tight – I now have massive back fat hanging out, and I’m a normal weight person (I’ve been same weight for all these fittings). I look like a sausage stuffed into a casing. The back looks horrible, and the best part of the dress is now ruined! I’m almost in tears.
I express my concern re: the back fat, but again she says “don’t worry, we’ll take it out a little bit.” Well, I go back for my (hopefully final) fitting two weeks before my wedding. I just have no faith that she will take it out enough so I won’t have back fat hanging out. After I left I call her to emphasize my concern and she replies “don’t worry, we have it in our notes to take it out.”
What should I do? Should I just plan on losing weight and forget the seamstress? If it doesn’t fit at the next fitting is two weeks enough time for yet another alteration? I really have no faith that my dress will fit properly two weeks before the wedding. (I have about a month and a half before my next fitting- the date in my profile is wrong.) Thanks!
