Ew. I would grab your next-door neighbor and go complain to the office again. If the smell is getting into your apartment even when your windows are closed then something needs to be done about it.

My FI’s cousin stays with us and sometimes during the week he cooks awful things and I gag in my house. I tell him all the time that it stinks and 1. turn on the fan 2. spray and light a candle when you are done and 3. stop letting things burn. I am an extremely clean person and when he cooks, it sets me off in a rage if he lets it get stinky, and believe me, I let him know it.

I got an automatic air freshener with a very strong scent, and it goes off every 9 minutes. You can set it to go off at 9, 18 or 30 minutes, and it really has helped reduce the scent if he cooks. Beware though, when you move, all of your things will probably smell, even if you can’t smell it now. If you get an air freshener and open windows you might not notice as much. Also get a really strong candle.

If you are moving next month I would just make a mention it to the property manager. That way the people who live there have some more support for a complaint.

That’s weird that the smell consumes so many apartments within the complex. Is there something wrong with the structure of your building? Maybe none of my neighbors cook strong stuff. That sucks!

Also, get an air purifier, it will help to remove the lingering odors in your apartment from your neighbors cooking.

What do you expect people to do? Not cook their own food? I’m sorry, but that’s a bit unreasonable. I’m a property manager, and one of my peeves is when people complain about smelling other peoples’ cooking.

If you live in an apartment complex, or other multi-family housing, there are some concessions you need to make personally. You’re going to hear other noises occasionally. You’re going to smell other peoples’ food occasionally. If you don’t like it, then apartment living is not for you.

To try to remedy the problem, ask for your HVAC filters to be replaced frequently, and maybe look into buying an air purifier for your apartment.

Definitely complain to the association/manager, they wont be able to re-rent out your place with that going on- so they will most likely do something about it
