But I HATE the carpet, engagement party will be from 3-8pm so will still be light.. what decoration style could go with the colours and how do we mask the ugliness of it – I don’t want it to look too function venue looking, my boyfriend wants a rustic style but I don’t think it will go with the carpet – please help!

Ignore the carpet and decorate as you choose. The carpet will not be noticeable when it is covered with people.

The carpet (and the rest of the room) are all done in neutrals, so you can use any colors you like. Play up elements in the room such as the chandeliers, mirrors and panelling in order to maximize existing decor and create a cohesive look.

Don’t fight the carpet: work with it. An option: tan and black striped tablecloths, and candlesticks in a rustic style:

I’ll be honest, I opened this thread because the title gave me a good laugh! At one of the venues that my fiance and I toured, he told the venue coordinator that their carpet was “godawful” and went on and on about how he’d be bothered by seeing the carpet in photos every time he looked at our wedding album! 😂 I was embarrassed at the time, but it’s more funny now looking back.
Anyway, on to your ugly carpet situation… I agree with pp, don’t fight the carpet, work with it. You are lucky that at least it is in neutral tones. I actually think a rustic style could work nicely if you stick with earthy tones that go with the carpet. I don’t know how much decorating you’re planning to do, but lanterns and/or candles might be nice for centerpieces, and I can see greenery, burlap (not sure if that’s your thing or not), and/or wood working nicely as accents as well. If you want to glam it up a bit more, you could maybe work in some metallic gold accents somehow.

The carpet is really neutral colors. I wouldn’t worry about it at all. Just decorate how you wish.

I was expecting worse! The print is bold, however, the colors neutral; your decor will be fine, nobody will notice the carpet.

No one will notice the carpet. And if they do they won’t judge this carpet… it’s pretty typical for a banquet hall. These types of venues all look like they were designed in the height of Jerry Garcia tie craze.

No one will notice the carpet. It looks really apparent in the photo because the room is empty. Once it’s full of people you won’t see or notice it.

The carpet looks a bit African to me…. maybe go rustic safari style?
