I just realized this now. They said to put 8 people at 48 inch tables as their plan. Or, go for smaller 36 inch tables and put 4-6 people at them.
This is what they suggested will fit best in the venue space. I was just going to send my florist the specs (who has been super patient waiting for this info), and I doubled checked the size and all over the web it says that anything more than 6 people at a 48 inch table is too squished.
What should I do? Should I trust them or ask for more alteratives? It might be tough because the reception space is a bit small, but I know others have fit even more poeple by using long tables instead.

@lazy: definitely don’t allow 8 guests at a 48″ table. they will be uncomfortable all night. can they not add more tables to accommodate your guests? or do they have 54″ tables? those will fit 8 comfortably.

The caterer is saying that’s our only optio. Has anyone else had 8 to a 48 inch table? I know other people have had even more guests than we are and fit. I’m wondering if I need to start contacting previous users of the venue (with different caterers) to see how they did it.

At our venue we have 60′ inch tables and can fit 6-8 very comfortably. No way that 8 can fit comfortably at those 48 inchers. I would look into the other options or ideas that you mentioned. I don’t know if it will help but I included pictures below that I found of 2 48′ tables to help you visualize. Good luck!

@lazy: That is too squished, try the squares if you can. We are having a smaller space for the reception and decided on doing square/long tables. We fit more people in the space that way, even with our small numbers, plus I feel it will be easier to walk around that way too.

We had 60″ tables with 8-9 and that was a little tight but still comfy. I can’t imagine doing 8 at 48″ tables. It would be a nightmare. Can you do rectangular tables?
