For all us LGBT couples in in the UK, we can now marry and have the same rights as other married couples. As it stands just now we can only have civil partnerships, which do not allow us the same legal, tax, fertility, family or even pension rights or schemes as heterosexual married couples. Its a common misconception that we already have gay marriage, but us living it, living here, know the reality. Today, our government passed the bill with a majority vote. 🙂
The bill means not only can we marry in churches that opt in, but that non religious same sex couples such as my partner and I can marry the same way A Heterosexual couple who aren’t religious can now too. Bottom line, we will marry and not a civil partnership. Hooray for UK LGBT couples!
Im putting this in the general hive because there is no longer any difference here in the UK.

I am particularly thrilled with this, because my wife is a UK citizen. And I’m impressed that even the Tories were split almost evenly on the issue. In the US, eliminating same-sex marriage was an official part of the Republican platform.

Yay! That’s excellent. I can’t believe Australia hasn’t made it legal yet, it bums me out knowing that so many people in my country are being oppressed for no reason!

Yay !!!!! woohoooo!!!! so Exciting congrats to all the happy couples who will now be married !!
And to anyone in Canada who has a partner from the UK and wanted to marry them here … once the bill goes through it will be legal in both so you can marry your Love without them being a canadian, and it will be recognized.

As soon as it happened I had to write a blog post about it. It was just too good not to.
Getting married is what people dream of. Not getting a civil partnership.
