@Soon2BD-CBee:  I’m not with Slimming World, but I am dieting/maintaining.

I’ve joined Slimmg World twice and both times had short-term success. But I found attending the meetings/weigh-ins a drag (esp as I work 2 evenings a week, and am at university a third evening; the meetings were really cutting into the time I can spend with my OH), and found the plan restrictive in some ways.

Last year I started using My Fitness Pal, and haven’t looked back; if I want to lose weight I set my calorie limit at 1500, and 1700 if I want to maintain. I love it as nothing is forbidden and I don’t have to count syns; if I want a pre-packaged sandwich at 300 calories, it just comes off my allowance. It’s also made me much more aware of calorie and fat content, and has encouraged me to make healthier choices eg instead of getting a pizza on my way home, at a whopping 1500 calories, I’d get a large chicken kebab with a small amount of extra-light mayo and lots of salad, at 400 calories; instead of getting steak and chips I’d order steak and jacket potato; etc.

It’s also made me exercise more as I love inputting the exercise I’ve done and seeing how much it’s burned; it encourages me to hit the pool and burn calories before a night out, so that I have enough calories in the bank.

Anyhoo, I know you were after people who follow Slimming World, and that I’ve gone off on a huge tangent lol, but basically, I’ve gradually dropped 24 pounds in total, and maintained it fairly well (currently carrying an extra 4 pounds due to an all inclusive holiday, laziness, and stress leading to comfort eating and drinking :-s; planning on losing that over the next 2 weeks). I hit my target weight of 8 stone 8 back in April, and since then my weight on average has fluctuated between 8 stone 7 and 8 stone 10 depending on water retention etc.

I do however think Slimming World is great, as I think it encourages people to eat more healthily, and again, to make healthier choices. I also like their new plan (when I first joined it was just ‘original’ and ‘green’ days) as I think it’s much easier to follow.

My favourite Slimming World recipes are their Chicken Tikka Massala, and their Aloo Gobi (from their curry book); both are delicious and I cook them a lot (though I stopped eating meat a while ago so don’t eat the chicken one any more lol; I cook it for my family and OH though, and it went down a storm when we had friends over for dinner recently). I also did some really nice lamb kofta kebabs once; think the recipe was from a magazine though.

I feel a bit of a fraud on this topic because the last thing I need to do is lose weight! However, I do have several friends who’ve battled with their weight for years without great success until they joined Slimming World. All of them have steadily lost weight the sensible way and kept it off. They all reckon that they actually eat MORE on the Slimming World plan than on their previous “starvation” regimes.

I really like hearing other people’s success stories!

In theory I know how to eat healthy, but can’t wait for recipe suggestions as I find it hard to keep food interesting and healthy at the same time. Slimming world for me is as much about support as anything else – having people to talk to who have the same goals, and learning from people who are acheiving their weight loss.

I’ve also just got a gym membership that I’ll start using as soon as my sprained ankle has recovered (waiting on physio to tell me when!) but they have a pool that I can use from next week. I’ve also got a fitness tracker to try and encourage me to reach and track goals.

I want to lose 3 stone overall, so here’s hoping support will help me get my head in the game!

I have mixed feelings about slimming world – a friend has done really well and lost two stone over last few months so I joined up.  I only had about 10lbs to lose but thought I would try SW. I hated it – people were queuing for half hour to pay £5 to get weighed.  We then listened to the woman go through the most complicated mathematical formula to work out the points value of some packet pasta snack!  I decided to follow their basic advice at home for free and cut out all biscuits cakes and crisps and eat more veg to fill up on and I have lost 7lbs already!  I am now having constant texts and emails from SW to ‘motivate’ me even though I cancelled my membership after that one session!

@Soon2BD-CBee:  i have only just seen this thread!! i am a member of SW – and lost a total of 4 stone with them (in just over a year) in the run up to my wedding! i LOVE SW and follow the EE plan. i love the fact that i dont have to count or really weigh anything!!! now the wedding is over (and i have the enevitable wedding and honeymoon weight gain) i am back on the slimming wagon!!

i weigh and stay – i LOVE my leader – she is funny and keeps it relevant rather than preachy. i found the basic formula of 1 syn = 20 calories the best one to use if your not eating free food, or your caught without your snack book – VERY handy to have in your handbag!

my fav recepies atm, they change regulally, are the chicken kievs, the stuffed canelloni and the chilli con carne.

have you come across the 0 syn cake in a cup yet?? πŸ™‚
