I looove the idea of having a ukelele player (or two!) for our ceremony music/possibly cocktail hour music.
However…we’re nowhere near the beach. Not even close. Think suburb, semi-rural, semi-country atmosphere.
So, ukelele: weird? awesome? awesomely weird? Should we just go with acoustic guitar instead?

why not?? if you love it you should do it! its always these little differences that make your wedding a memorable one =) I would vote awesomely weird. you should add a poll!

Depends what they are playing, I think. Since it’s a rural country wedding, as opposed to say a black tie affair, I think it could be quite charming.

Well, I’m from Hawaii, so… I vote awesome! 😀
Do ukuleles or Hawaii have a special meaning to you? Or are either of you particularly interested or involved in different types of music? Otherwise, I could maybe see some people raising a brow over the instrument choice, but still, most people don’t even notice a lot of these little details that us brides obsess over ya know?
ETA: OMG. Love the name!! lol!

Well that’s the thing: neither of us are from Hawaii/have any special meaning or attachment to ukeleles/have a musically talented bone in our bodies. We just dig listening to ukeleles.
I just wonder if it’ll be too much of a disconnect for our guests, or distracting. On the other hand… so what, right? 😉

Well I think you two just really digging ukulele music is reason enough, then! Go with the “so what?” hand! 😀

Well, I play the ukulele, so I think it’s awesome : ) I might have one of my uke-player friends play some stuff at our reception/ceremony (which will be in a barn in the country).

When I think of ukelele’s I think of the song from 50 first dates… Somewhere over the rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. I love this song!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O-LDea7SHY
I think you should do it!

I’m an admitted music lover, so while it may strike me as somewhat random, I would still think it was fantastically awesome. But then again this is coming from the girl who was as giddy as a kid on christmas when her buddies got to gether to play harmonica, mandolin and a stand up bass together haha.
If you love it I think you should do it, because really, you could ride a giant panda down the aisle and no one would be able to say anything about it 😛

Hands down awesome and romantic! I say go for it!

Go Team Ukelele!
We are having a friend play the ukelele for our ceremony. Not Hawaiian, not getting married on the beach. Just have a friend who plays the ukelele and we both agreed it would be the most awesome, slightly quirky ceremony music imaginable.
(also, Magnetic Fields has a ukelele sometimes and they’re one of the most romantic bands around)
