Did anybody else take on the ultimate DIY project and have somebody (or yourself, or your mom as in my case) MAKE your bridesmaid dresses?!?! Post pictures of your handiwork! I’d love to know if there’s anybody else out there who couldn’t bear to ask their super cash-strapped bridesmaids to shell out a chunk!

i am doing the same thing! i just only bought the fabric and the pattern from Butterick pattern #b5322 which has 5 different styles to choose from and the patterns like A & C from it are super easy! Now here’s the catch…i’m trying to find a seamstress! so i’m not really DIY but hopefully it won’t cost more than $100 per dress otherwise it kinda defeats the purpose but since i live in LA i figured i can find someone who works in the fashion district. But honestly these places like David’s Bridal and Alfred Angelo and all the bridal shops are trying to charge $200 for the same pattern! Good luck to you!

@ Contrarymary, you can TOTALLY find a seamstress in LA to make them. Find one of those little Korean seamstress/tailor shops. Maybe ask an ethnic friend? When I lived in SoCal, my mom probably could have named off a few off the top of her head (being half korean herself, we know that it’s common for asian women to be seamstresses). We lived in Fullerton and there were always a few of those! The women in there are very handy and will see that you want dresses made, not necessarily dresses for your wedding (so the quote won’t suddenly inflate) and are typically more affordably priced than places who specialize in weddings. It’s not that hard anyways and shouldn’t be more than $100. It amazes me how a simple bridesmaid dress can cost $200 nowadays! I decided to attach a pic of my mom’s handiwork. They look professional, nobody’s going to know they didn’t cost a bundle! I like that pattern, by the way!

I didn’t…actually didn’t even think about it until it was too late because I think my Mother-In-Law would have been up to the task. Miss Perfume did, though! See here posts here, here, and here.
By the way, your mom looks like she did a great job! You are one lucky lady to have her. 🙂
