FI’s birthday is next week (Irish baby born on St. Patricks day!), but he’s been so swamped with a work function that we are both thinking that we need to skip town. What better way to do it then a good ol’ fashioned road trip!
Since we just got a new car with only 1k miles on it so far, we are taking our car and heading out Friday afternoon through Monday night. It’s not long, but we plan on driving all night/sleeping in the car on our travel days Friday and Monday, and then spending 2 full days in our destination (Saturday and Sunday). Here’s our top three choices:
1. Washington DC- Lots of free stuff (and I’m a history nerd) and I’ve never been…
2. Toronto/Niagara Falls- FI’s never been and there is a big vegan community there for him to enjoy.
3. New Orleans- I’ve never been there, but I am a jazz musician and my Fiance loves the nightlife.
But we’re open for other suggestions! Here’s what we want- a 10-15 hour drive to a destination. We are not really outdoorsy folks, but we love nightlife, cities, art, antiques, big events, etc. We would rather go east or south, and we do not want any midwest towns or Florida. We are just itching to get out of the flat lands!
How we are going to decide is by rolling a dice, and whenever we roll doubles, we will go to the destination assigned. So, we need 3 more agreed upon destinations for this to work!

I voted for DC, but I may be a bit biased because I live just outside the city. DC also has all of those things you’re looking to do. If you come after March 20, you’ll be able to go to the Cherry Blossom Festivle. I’ve done the drive before and it took us about 13 hours – so not too bad. Lots of tolls though. Feel free to PM me if you want suggestions on where to go, what to do, where to eat, etc.

I would go to New Orleans, I feel like the weather would be decent this time of year!
DC would be my 2nd pick…if only to see the cherry trees in full bloom! I feel like I’d want another day or two to properly see all the history stuff!

New Orleans!! I love the drive South from Chicago, in fact we are going to Louisville this weekend. 🙂 There are so many great stops along the way. I would swing through Atlanta and Nashville. Great tons with great nightlife and great food to try.

I voted for D.C because like @runswithbears about the Cherry Festival. I haven’t been but I have heard it is absolutely stunning and an amazing festival. Good luck choosing! 🙂

We did Chicago to Niagara to Montreal to Quebec City. It was so romantic. This was our 1st trip together and its where i feel in love with my fiance. Porter flies out of midway with decent fares to all Ontatrio and Quebec locations. If i did it again, I’d fly to quebec , rent a car, drive home with stops in Ottawa Montreal and Niagara. Toronto is nice, but it reminds me of Chicago ALOT.
Old Town Montreal and Quebec City are like a mini france!

@Earlybride: I wish! I’ve actually never been to the west coast, but Fiance and I are dying to get out there. Wish it wasn’t so expensive!

I voted NOLA. It seems like a great place to visit and enjoy – especially if you two enjoy the night life.

I love DC, it’s my old home (home is Chicago now!) but I voted New Orleans because it’s sounds like so much fun!! Could definitely get a little crazy and do some different stuff there.

This is probably not meeting your criteria…but go to Nashville! It is the perfect getaway. It’s a sweet, beautiful city, with rolling hills and a very fun downtown/bar scene. There is a lot to do there and it has some amazing live music and food.
