I wouldn’t even want an ultrasound at 6 weeks personally. Chances are you’re so early they might not even see anything, and that just adds a ton of unnecessary worry.
I had one at 8 weeks, but I did not get a BFP until day 41 of my cycle so they needed it for dating purposes.

I’m in Canada as well and have a history of miscarriages so with my last pregnancy my doctor let me have an ultrasound at 7 weeks and 10 weeks and then my next one wasn’t until 22 weeks. With myp revious pregnancies they wouldn’t let me have an ultrasound until 12 weeks.

I’m having one at 6w6d, but it’s a dating scan. In Canada it’s pretty typical to not have one until 12+ weeks. Don’t worry! I’m 5w6d today and symptoms come and go.

my doc only does 20 week scan… I went for first tri screening at 12 and got one then but I’m not recommending that unless you want a lot of unnecessary worrying. Every practice is different though.

not all NT scans cause unnecessary worrying. I do think doctors (and possibly midwives? Though ours was fantastic) need to do a better job at explaining what the ips testing and scan are for and what the results mean. We knew it was not diagnostic and given my age we figured we’d come back at least moderate risk. Our midwife did discuss the value in the test really only exists if you’re committed to doing further testing. Judging by what I’ve seen on other baby boards that kind of explanation is seriously lacking and that causes unnecessary stress and worry!
I’d have the ips and NT scan done again in subsequent pregnancies, without a doubt.

I have an appt today. I will be 7 weeks Wednesday. I got pregnant by surprise (was on pill)! and am not high risk or anything of that nature. I have an ultrasound at 1pm and visit with my ob at 2.

As someone who started off very anxious about my pregnancy, I can tell you that having early/more ultrasounds will not help the anxiety. I had my first US at 8 weeks for the dating scan and I’ve had one every 4 weeks since during each prenatal visit (at 12 and 16).
So while I’ve been able to see the baby 3 times, plus during the NT scan, the in-between periods are still nerve-wrecking especially in the beginning when I didn’t feel pregnant and was worried for absolutely no reason about the well-being of the fetus.
I would recommend writing down all your questions no matter how trivial they are and ask your OB at each visit. Good luck!

Ontario, Canada Bee here and I have had three but my third was because of having a low lying placenta. My first was 12w and second was 20 weeks. That would have been it if it wasn’t for the placenta issue. Now baby is breech and has been for some time so I may get a fourth but two is a good sign.
I think you can pay for a 3D ultrasound if you want more.

I’m in Canada (Toronto) and 18 weeks pregnant. My ultrasounds were scheduled for 11.5 weeks and 19.5 weeks. I was told that ultrasound earlier than 11/12 weeks are only performed if you’re high-risk, have had mutiple losses or have no idea how far along you are. So I don’t think it’s likely that you’ll get an earlier ultrasound due to anxiety.

I’m in Canada.
I had one at 6 weeks 3 days. We thought we were around 11 weeks, however I had missed two periods but was getting negative pregnancy test results. My doctor scheduled a dating ultrasound, and then I had another at around 8 weeks to confirm that the baby was growing/viable (since my dates were SO off, they had to ensure that I was actually only 6 weeks).
Since then I’ve had one at 12 (IPS testing), 19 (anatomy), and then at 21 (emergency visit for possible fluid leakage, just a scare, thankfully!). I also had a voluntary 3D ultrasound at 23 weeks that we had booked long before all of my standard/medical ultrasounds.
I’ve been lucky that I have gotten to see her so often, but it does make the time between ultrasounds VERY stressful. You kind of become dependent on the ultrasound to make you feel like everything is okay.

Thanks so much everyone for the replies. I really appreciate the insight. I know my anxiety is something I need to control and I also know an ultrasound every single day won’t PREVENT something from happening, so I just have to try and remember ‘whatever will be, will be”. Also, I never thought about an early ultrasound CAUSING more anxiety but I can see how I might feel more anxious not seeing anything (when there very well may be a little bean in there) may make me every more anxious. I will wait it out until my 12 week ultrasouns so I can see a real baby looking bean which will help me relax! Thanks again everyone!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I only had an ultrasound at 20 weeks (we decided not to do the NT one at 12 weeks). But, we got to hear the heartbeat with a Doppler at every appointment, starting at my first one at 11 weeks. I know how you feel, when the midwife was looking for the heartbeat that first time I was so nervous, thinking maybe there wouldn’t be
a heartbeat. But like PP have said, things usually prcoeed normally, and having a very early utrasound may make you feel better temporarily, but there is always something you could be worried about, and a good ultrasound at 6 weeks is still no guarantee that everything is fine. Getting a handle on your anxiety will serve you better. Best of luck and I hope you have a healthy and happy and relaxed pregnancy!

this is good. If sonething comes up, they WILL do an ultrasound if it’s needed. Just try to enjoy your pregnancy. It’s a total Rollercoaster. And don’t be afraid to tell people about your anxiety or any feelings, really. My frost 15 weeks were hell. I finally asked some mom friends I have (kids from infant to university age) and their responses made me feel so much better. What I was feeling was totally normal for some. It was very freeing and helped me immensely! Don’t hold things in.

Another US Bee here…had my first one at 12 weeks and Im glad I didn’t try to get an early ultrasound. When we saw our bean for the first time, he looked like a human baby! I have nothing against gummy bear babies, they are completely adorable too, but there was a definite satisfaction being able to see a human looking form on the screen with fingers and toes, bouncing around 🙂 Pregnancy is an anxious time no matter what week you are in…try your best to manage your anxiety and enjoy this precious time 🙂

Hi. It all depends on if this is your first pregnancy and weather you have any complications such as spotting or previous miscarriages.
