@Bubblesmcgee:  I agree with you that its not strange they asked her about the possibility of getting pregnant.  What I thought was strange is that they forgot why she was getting an ultrasound in the first place – why she was in the office that day.  That’s not being a mind reader, its being minimally competent and keeping adequate charts.  Though maybe they were trying to catch her in pretending to have kidney problems in order to trick them into finding a baby?

@Polygon:  Again, charts aren’t always accurate or complete- so if the test results you’ve been given don’t square with the primary complaint on the chart, the most direct path to the truth (is this an unexpected finding, or a charting issue) is usually asking the patient.

I think a hopeful pregnant woman who HAD gone in for an u/s for that would be pretty horrified to bring her u/s to the doc for discussion, only to have the doc launch in to a reassurance that her kidneys are looking better, so… if you get handed an ultrasound report (one of probably dozens you’ll see that day, for patients who you may or may not already be familiar with) that indicates, say, a pregnancy or an emergeny obstetric problem, and you’re pretty certain the chart you just reviewed say “kidney cyst”… time to ask some questions!

@Bubblesmcgee:  Yes, I think we agree that the doctor and the tech were worried that they had messed up her chart.

I hope that you will have a positive come out of this.

I had a Dr ask me this when I went in for a scan whilest not TTC and it was due to a thickened endometrium (which I believe can show up after implantation but before you can see clear signs of pregnancy) -I get really heavy periods so they think I might have endometrial hyperplasia.

All the best – fingers crossed for you guys.

@AlmostMrsShield:  Fingers crossed for you but if you’ve had your period two weeks ago, try not to get your hopes up. If your period was two weeks ago, you would have literally just conceived and I doubt that some kidney guys could see that on the ultra-sound? (FWIW, I still think they did act suspicious, but I don’t wanna join in all the excitement and then you’ll be super disappointed, so therefore I’ll say realistically thinking, having had your period two weeks ago PROBABLY they dodn’t see a pregnancy. But crossing my fingers for you!!!!!!!)
