As someone who works in the health care industry I am completely mortified that she even said that.
Call anyone and everyone who you can and report her. Make sure it is documented (you never know maybe she has had other problems in the past)
She is not a doctor and it is definately not her job or right to say anything like that to you. She is a tech… that is it.
I am so sorry.

I am so, so sorry that happened to you. I am a sonographer (ultrasound tech), and I cannot believe she would say something like that. That is completely inappropriate and thoughtless.
If I were you, I would call and ask to speak to her supervisor, as well as write the department a letter so that it is documented. In the hospital I work, we actually have a place where you can go on our website and file a complaint that way, so maybe look into that as well. Also, if you go back to the same clinic, request someone different. Even if you can’t remember her name, they will be able to look up who did your last ultrasound.
I’m so glad baby’s okay, but so sorry you had to go through that.
@mscaniche: I completely agree with you that it was outside the sonographer’s bounds to say something like that (not to mention terribly inconsiderate and unprofessional), but it is offensive to those of us who are in the profession to hear us called “techs… that is it”. We have to go through very intensive schooling to do this, and we work hand in hand with our radiologists to form a diagnosis. I hope this isn’t coming accross as rude, I’m sure you didn’t mean anything by it, I just wanted to point it out anyway. Then again, maybe I’m just being too sensitive…

MY GOODNESS! what a *&^%^! Call the supervisor asap.

((((hugs)))) to you!
What a thoughtless, insensitive, utterly UNPROFESSIONAL cow! That is just infuriating beyond belief. I had a miscarriage last fall, and I’m lucky enough to be pregnant again … but that sort of comment at my 12 week U/S would have completely finished me! What kind of U/S tech doesn’t understand how freakin’ vulnerable pregnant women are?
I agree with all the previous advice to report this stupid idiotic woman. She deserves to be fired or at least suspended so she can take some sensitivity training!

I would be completely LIVID!! That is so unacceptable and I am so sorry she said that to you. Someone like that should lose their job. Not OK!

Thank you to everyone for your kind words of support. I appreciate all your excellent suggestions and will be following up by filing a formal complaint. She works directly in the hospital with my doctor, so I plan to bring it up with him as well. And I will make sure that I am assigned to a different tech next time…there is another woman there who is patient and delightful, so I will ask for her specifically.
Thanks again. This was a very emotional day for me and it really means a lot to have the support of so many bees. Thanks especially to the medical bees who reassured me that this was not appropriate!

What a horrible thing to say to someone! I’m glad the baby is ok.

Whoa that is unacceptable. If that would have happened to me I would have asked for her supervisor on the spot!
Thank goodness little baby is okay 🙂

I would have been livid! Definitely call and speak with her supervisor – that is just ridiculous!

Wow. So unprofessional and extremely hurtful- I would definitely contact somone at that office. I mean, I understand people having bad days, but she really should watch what she says to patients. That needs to be reported.
