i love that a five year old thread still has legs lol. But yeah, I do not want others to wear my ring. I would take it off and let close friends and family look at it when I first got it, but I politely asked them not to try it on. To me, the ring is an intimate personal gift and i think its bad luck to let others put it on, but I can understand others opinions on this as well.

@Maegan:  I wouldn’t care. I have given it to people to look at or try on. It’s really no big deal to me.

But I do think that it’s weird that she continues to ask you when you said no.

You are within your rights to say no and mean no.

Just stick to your guns.

@Maegan:  Why does it matter?  I have a 2 carat diamond ring and it is beautiful, one my bridesmaids Awws at it everytime I hang out with her and I let her wear it while we are watching a movie or something bc she is single.  It brings her joy to get to feel engaged with a big rock on her hand, so I don’t mind.  Its not like she is going to steal it! LOL

@Maegan:  I’d never ask someone to try theirs on but I don’t think it’s a huge deal. Granted, you said no and she should drop it.  But, she’s not destroying the sanctity of marriage or something if she tries your ring on.  I’ve tried my sisters on and she’s tried mine on. I wouldn’t let a perfect stranger do it but a family member or close friend, whatevs.

I don’t think it’s a big deal to me but not that many women asked me to let them try on their fingers. Only selected close friends and family bug me and pretend to switch ring with me haha but I know they were just teasing me and happy for the bling I have.

BUT I wouldn’t let anybody try my wedding band in the future, it is meant to be on my finger forever and ever.

@BrideToBe14:  agreed, though I’ve never asked to try on someone else’s ring.

I have had two friends ask to see my ring off my finger, since it has very delicate milgrain and details. One slipped it on her finger and the other just held the basket up to her face. And just today, we were discussing a random classmate’s hands being really small and she tried on my ring to see if it would fit (it didn’t, so she must be like a size 3 or something tiny).

She was really excited to put my ring on and her face lit up – it was pretty cute! I didn’t even consider it to be weird. If it were a cashier at the grocery store and a random person on the train asking, I obviously would say no.

I’ve noticed it’s a European thing … My friends/family here would never ask to try on my ring, but in Europe – friends, family, STRANGERS (friends of cousins) all asked. It was the oddest thing. I was uncomfortable with the girls I didn’t know. I also noticed engaged/married friends won’t ask, but that’s not a hard and fast rule either.

@letigre:  Yeah, no way some random person:)

I would say something that ERKS me if someone asks to see your ring,

is if they hold it up really close to their eye like they are trying to see inclusions, specks or imperfections, because my ring is bigger than theirs..

That is so RUDE I think, and I have had like 4 of my friends do that…try to see imperfections so they can be like oh yours is twice as big as mine, but mine in flawless, blah blah blah

Noone cares, lol 🙂

I wouldn’t be worried about it in the sense that it is a symbol of your FI’s love and committment, but more that it would get stuck on someone else’s finger. I have really small fingers, and I have had people with…not so small fingers ask me to try some of my rings on (not my e-ring). Um no, I don’t feel like seeing you try to squeeze it on.

hmm i guess it would depend on the friend. but at our softball game three of us all took our rings off and all tried each one on. but will have to admit one of theirs got stuck on mine. i got it off but i have chubby fingers i should have known.

its odd that she keeps asking you though. im really close with some friends where if they asked to borrow something like some boots, but i havent even worn them so the awnsers no.. they totally understand. no big deal. i just feel that way and they respect it.

I only got asked that once by my little cousin.  I was a little startled, but thought it was cute and let her.  She is just 21, but has been with her boyfriend for a really long time, and quite honestly I think it was because rings and engagements were on her mind.  We were also in my aunts house with just family and she has tiny fingers- so I wasn’t too worried about the ring getting lost or damaged or stuck on her finger.  I doubt I would let a friend, and definitely not one that begged me so much.
