Fiance sent his passport to the on Friday.
He paid for expedited next day air shipping both there and back.
The passport was supposed to be delivered this morning and wasn’t.
As of this morning it was “in Manhattan” and would be delivered later today.
As of right now UPS no longer knows where the passport is.
He is supposed to go back to the UK on Sunday for work.
UPS has said the new delivery estimate is “1 – 8 business days”.
My question is how can they deliver a package when they don’t know where it is!
Has anyone ever had this happen before?

Just heard from Fiance. UPS has “officially lost” his passport and he has to request a new one.
UPS will not even start to determine if they owe him any reparations until at least 8 business days from today.
This whole thing is just ridiculous!

That’s awful! Um they should at least be paying him what it costs for him to get an expedited passport just based on the fact that they didn’t deliver it as promised. And they should be paying him that RIGHT NOW! I’d be livid!

Uuugh that SUCKS!!! 🙁 They should definitely owe him money for the time/energy he will now have to spend getting a new passport.
Does that mean he at least gets to spend a few extra days with you?

They say it is technically still “in transit” even though they’ve told him to get a new one because they have NO CLUE where it is!
I’m worried about ID theft as well at this point.

He’s spending extra days in NYC… but I won’t be here this weekend.
My sister is graduating from college so I’m leaving tomorrow right after work for the weekend.
He’s hoping to still be able to fly out to the UK on Sunday.

UGH – this is soooo horrible. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this and I sure hope UPS finds it!!!!

Good luck. My Fiance works for them and they can be serious stinkers about things like this. They either are going to 1. help you so they can avoid a negative review or 2. make it seem like it was your fault. Truth! Hopefully they take option 1 and find it or reimburse you for it.

That sucks and is so dangrous. Anyone could have that passport right now.

When I moved to Japan, UPS lost a massive moving box full of brand-new work clothes and a bunch of old personal items. Altogether, it was worth over $400.00. They never did anything about it.

They have said they will not be reimbursing him because he is the recipient. They are saying the sender has to file the claim and if the sender files a claim they will reimburse them $100 max.
There is no way the UK consulate is going to file a claim with UPS.
Also, Fiance is going to have to spend ALL DAY in line on Monday at the passport office and spend $1,000s in rush fees to get his new passport and new visa.
He went to apply for a new passport yesterday, but they refused his old passport because it had already been used once to apply for a new one (i.e. the one that has been lost by UPS).
On top of all this he’s sick with a bad head cold and is swamped at work. I feel bad for him.

UPS once sent approximately $250,000 worth of scientific gear to the Azores instead of South Africa when I was in grad school. Want to know how we figured that out? One of the scientists was in the Azores on vacation years later, and saw one of the metal storage containers covered with the institution’s stickers in a marketplace…address and everything still on it.
