@nomnom:  WOW! That is absolutely one of the most rude things I have heard from someone who runs a food industry buisness. He could have worded it in a more tactful way. I wouldn’t use that place. No way!!! I would write a review on Yelp or google or wherever – he needs to be ratted out!

@nomnom:  How rude! But thank goodness you found out before you’d paid a deposit!

So bizarre – especially since I can’t image most restaurants have the facilities to make multi-tiered cakes.

@nomnom:  I’m so glad you’ve posted this.  Fiance and I are hoping to have the same type of wedding, small about 40-50 people, preferrably at a restaurant.  I can definitely cross that one off my list!

Have you found any others that you’ve been impressed by?  Currently I’ve been striking out on price alone…I’m not paying 6k for 40 people to eat LOL

That is shocking.  I’ve been to many restaurants for fairwell parties, anniversaries, and other occasions where the cake was brought in.

I think this is especially awesome because his response doesn’t even make sense.  If you’re going to be snarky to a potential customer you DAMN WELL better be intelligent about it.

And as I see you’ve experienced, most people in the wedding industry know how to respond to even the most insane requests with tact (let alone a very normal one such as can I bring a cake from a professional baker).  I would write back “as you probably know from being an industry expert, selling your business is just as important as selling your personality.  Thus, I will be holding my event elsewhere”

and then I would delete the email draft and continue contacting new places because I’m a wimp.

Terrible customer service. The restaurant I used to work in would take people’s cakes, keep them in the bar fridge and sing happy birthday (etc). Most places Should be fine for it. For a nicer establishment I’d assume you’d just pay a “cakeage” fee.

Id send a response along the lines of what other have said. Thanks but no thanks.

@nomnom:  Don’t say ANYTHING – go somewhere else, they do not deserve your business. How freaking rude can you be. Maybe he doesn’t understand that some wedding venues allow outside catering.. What a jerk. Hope you have better luck elsewhere!

Don’t walk, RUN away from this venue!! You will find something better where they are also congenial.

@nomnom:  That is ridiculous.  Your question was a completely reasonable and acceptable question to ask!  Rather than that reply, all he had to say was ‘No, our staff offer a varierty of wedding cakes … blah, blah, blah’.  His reply is completely unacceptable and I would not offer them my business.  I’d probably love to reply with an equally rude reply, but perhaps call him out on his completely rude and disrespectful response and that they will no longer receive any kind of business from you.  I would probably post this on a number of site like Urbanspoon, hopefully discouraging people from dining there.

@nomnom:  Wouldn’t use them. In fact, I would copy and paste that response into Wedding Wire for a poor review.  Yikes .
