I am getting married next summer in Toronto, ON and am looking for any under the radar event spaces that don’t typically host weddings in hopes of driving the cost down.
Ideally we would love a rustic outdoor wedding but open to any ideas!
If you know of any secret gems in GTA that have large spaces for a wedding of around 150, please let me know!

If you’re open to having a reception that ends at 11, there are lots of City of Toronto heritage spaces with outdoor areas that can be rented from the city for quite cheap, otherwise, the cheapest option is to do an offseason, Sunday or Thursday night wedding to get the less expensive venue fees. We looked at dozens and dozens of places for our May wedding and pretty much anywhere in GTA is pretty expensive, especially when you realize venue price doesn’t matter, bringing in your food and tables etc is where the real expense lies.

Thank you! We are pretty set on a Saturday wedding just because almost all our guests will be traveling for the wedding, and we don’t want to make anyone take time off to come to our wedding. I’m looking into the Toronto Botanical Gardens as we speak. I haven’t even started looking into caterers yet. Do you know ballpark how much I should budget for a wedding of 150 if we have a buffet style dinner? And if you don’t mind me asking, did you end up having your wedding in GTA and at which venue?

if you’re looking to keep costs low, it’s best to go slightly outside the city – I recommend Westfield Heritage Centre: http://westfieldheritage.ca/
in Rockton, Ontario, about an hour from Toronto. There’s a ton of hotels in that area too, literally all around the venue.

Globe Bistro apparently has a space upstairs with a little stage and can host a meal downstairs afterward.

Thank you for the recommendation! Definitely open to going a bit outside the city. I hadn’t heard of Westfield before and am looking into it now.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just looked into it, and unfortunately they look a little small for us. We will have at least 150 – upwards of 200 – at our wedding and The Globe isn’t able to accommodate those numbers in any single room. Thanks for suggesting it though!

- Wedding: May 2017 - Canvas Event Space
There’s a couple venues on the Island. Have you checked those? I think they’re both owned by Artscape.
