I wax my underarms all the time.  It doesn’t hurt.  Well, it hurts a little the moment you do it, but afterwards it doesn’t hurt.

I have really thick, coarse black hair, so I would do it the day before.  After two or three days, stubble appears.  Not so much that people are able to see it (I go to work with it all the time!), but *I* will notice, and it will not be perfect enough for my wedding day.

However, I gather people with lighter, finer hair can go longer.  It definitely lasts longer than shaving, even for me: if I were shaving, I would probably do it the morning of my wedding to make sure it was still good that afternoon.

I’ve done it, and it looks great. The only problem is, you have to let the hair grow out long enough to get caught in the wax, so you’ll be a little fuzzy in the week before your wedding!

It doesn’t hurt much at all– I do mine at home with the washable cold wax, and it’s fine after a minute or two. Just stings a little. For my wedding, I did mine the weekend before (for my bachelorette), and just shaved the morning of the wedding. There’s not much TO shave, but it’ll catch any extras that didn’t get yanked out. So it’ll last about a week, generally speaking.

Actually I would recommend you get it more than a few days before the wedding.  Sometimes if the wax is too hot the skin will be all red and irritated.  And because the underarm is not a flat surface, most of the times waxing does not get rid of all the hair (so you need plucking, which irritates it even further).  It doesn’t hurt more than one day, it kinda feels like an Indian burn.  When I used to get them waxed, I needed it to it every two weeks for the hair to grow to a decent length.  It lasts maybe a week until the hair grows back.  I would try it at home as far back before the wedding as possible and see what you think.

Oh yes and waxing does cause ingrown hairs and pimples so I’d look into Tend Skin as well!

After years of shaving waxing really killed me! Especially in the underarm region. I had little blisters and stuff and didn’t feel it was worth it.

I would definitely recommend trying this at least a few weeks in advance

Bringing this thread back for any bees who may be interested.

i had a few of my girlfriends asking about this as they are getting married shortly after me.

I wax my underarms myself. I do find it quite painful however the result is worth it. Try it once if you’ve never done it before–some people react badly to waxing. I have sensitive skin so I waxed today and my wedding is on Saturday. This will give me plenty of time to ease any irritation.

i find that ice soothes swelling and then aloe vera mixed with polysporin reduces redness and any possible infection.

I have thick and coarse hair and this lasts a good week and a half for me!
