@lcm:  I have a 1ct Amora that was ordered in August and I don’t see much, if any warmth in my stone.  It *might* have a tiny bit of yellow when it’s overcast, but I rarely detect any color in it.  It’s definitely not blueish or icy like CZ though.

I also have a pair of unenhanced moissanite earrings (smaller) that are clearly less white, but not an undesirable color.  They are definitely not greenish, and I think I received them in 2010.  They’re also maybe .5 ct each, though.

You can always order a 2ct unenhanced loose stone and see if you like it–they have an easy return policy with loose stones.

Agreed with PP about ordering a loose stone.  Also, when you refer to “Amora”, I take it to mean you mean an Amore enhanced moissanite and not the Amora Gem (which won’t be available in North America until 2015).  The Amora Gem will combine the best characteristics of diamond and moissanite, be in the colorless range.

As far as I know, unenhanced moissanites can “face up” from G to J colour, depending on the quality of the cut.  Smaller stones appear whiter.

Enhanced moissanites are slightly whiter, and Amora enhanced moissanites are the whitest, generally F-G.

Moissanite & Co doesn’t have any Amora moissanites in stock, but Better Than Diamond will be starting a batch soon.  You can check out their forum for more info.

Thankyou. we just asked our jeweler for a moissanite and they assumed we’d want a white one so they handpicked me that one.

I have a Forever Brilliant (it’s Amora’s competitor), and it is very white.

Unenhanced moissanites can show some color, but in some cases, that might not be the case. It also depends on the cut of your stone. If you got, say, a princess cut, that stone would show more color than a round brilliant.

Typically, the bigger your stone, the more likely it is to show color (which is why I personally went with an enhanced moissanite). A 2 ct, unenhanced princess cut may show more color than you are expecting, whereas an enhanced 2 ct princess cut may show warmth because of the size.

Unenhanced moissanites can pick up colors around it very easily — so it may look green, yellow, blue, etc. The most common statement people make in regards to color is that it looks yellow or green. Of course, like I mentioned before, this will vary depending on size, cut, etc.

@lcm:  My vote is (somewhat obviously) for moissanite. We decided on moissanite because the price was right, we loved the optics, and it’s still easily-recognizable as an engagement ring.  I’ve never regretted choosing a moissanite ring, and I definitely won’t be “upgrading” it to a diamond.

For us, there was really no compelling reason to get a diamond.  For some couples, engagement=diamond.  If you feel that way, you should get a diamond.  Some people also like the optics of a diamond better.  We really didn’t.  Some couples buy a smaller diamond with a full-price upgrade option at a jeweler.  We wanted a forever stone, so it wasn’t a consideration.

Hope that helps a little!

@lcm:  i also want to know what you guys would prefer? get a moissanite in a bigger carat, or opt for a diamond that’s within the budget but of course less carat and a bit lesser quality…?

personally, I would prefer a moissanite in that situation.

warning: your question has been the beginning of many heated debates! if you really want a diamond, get a diamond. but I’d warn against buying a 2ct diamond for only $4,000 — this seems a little fishy to me. I just don’t see how a diamond that cheap could possibly be good.

if you want a 2ct stone within your budget that is very clear and very sparkly, then by all means get an amora enhanced moissanite!
