This family planning appointment went well overall. I have to contact my doctor when I start my next period since I haven’t been able to exactly pinpoint ovulation with OPK’s (started shortly after AF ended around day 7 or so after getting advice from other Bees)or blood tests. She wants to do an ultrasound to see if there’s dominant follicles and also to check for abnormalities.
She was also finally able to talk to FH about what can be going on. It’s quite possible Methadone (previously Suboxone; no judging please…he has been very dedicated to his program when I never knew him to go support groups in the past and was before clean that since atleast 2011 until this Spring so I know he is capable) can be lowering his sperm count, but, I learned he was also taking Oxy-80 daily when he got his ex-FI pregnant in 2008 so it is still unclear. He has to go in for a general exam and semen analysis once he can get an appointment.
So…I know, it’s kinda bad. But, I’ve been uninsured since just before I turned 19 (taken off CHiP due to age and sexually active since 18; now 22) and was always kind of afraid of the ob-gyn to begin with so I never had anything other than a quick look until today. Relatively easy, yet, sometimes irregular periods and nothing too unusual or worrisome.
And I am glad I finally did! I turns out I’ve had trichmoniasis for an undetermined amount of time. Shocked since I had a urine analysis in July for chlaymydia and gonnorhea that was fine (as expected) and thought I would absolutely know if I had an STD.
It honestly mimicked normal daily discharge ,for however long it’s been, which I’ve had since I’ve started menstruating at age 11. I was surprised when she even said anything about it during my pap and took a swab. It obviously doesn’t smell like roses up there, but, didn’t notice anything alarming ever (FH did tell me after our diagnosis that were times where I did have an odor [strong, but, not ubearable or fishy], but, he thought it was just a woman thing and didn’t want to embarrass me). No vaginal irritation/itchiness or painful intercourse either. I did find out, too, that my slight discomfort sometimes when urinating and urgency was connected. I have always had a weak bladder, though, and wrote it off since I had this happen sometimes even as a child with no tests ever coming back abnormal during a checkup.
Since it almost never shows sympthoms in males nor are they ever really tested unless specified, I really don’t know who had it first with the originally unrelated conditions and overall asymptomatic-ness. The doctor gave us 14-500 MG (7 each) Metronidazole and said to use condoms until we were done the antibiotics. I never suspected anything like this being a factor in our fertility.
Once we got that shock out of the way, I had blood work done for my liver, thyroid, blood sugar, etc. to check for other conditions and look at my overall health.
My concerns are:
-Has anybody else had this and never known about it?
-Did it continue to affect your ability concieve even after treatment?
