Has anyone had their mind set on a certain style, silohette, material, etc, and tried on dress after dress, only to surprisingly fall in love with a dress you though you would hate!???
I was going for all lace, or lace and tulle in a vintage style. The absolute LAST thing I wanted was a dress made of silk or satin, with a modern, elegant look. I wanted vintage, romantic lace all the way! Although I was willing to consider drop waist ball gowns.
Lo and behold, I have unexpectedly fallen in love and purchased a very modern, sweetheart mermaid gown, with structured ruffled skirt, all in SILK! haha!
Anyone else been through something like this!? Think this would be a fun topic, Id love to see all you beautiful brides in “before” dresses (i.e. the styles you were going for) and “after” dresses (your surprise loves!)!!!!

I thought I was going to love this dress- I was dead set against wearing anything “white” and I wasn’t a lace fan. I still love the dress, it looks great on the model but it did not work on me and it is the same color as my skin. It was not good.
I fell in love with this dress! Which is pretty darn white except for the “champagne” sash and of course there is lace on the skirt. Oh well, I don’t care! I love it!

I thought i would wear something like this:
But instead fell in love with Jenny Packham (photo below doesn’t do it justice as it is literally 4 sizes too big and the off-the-rack sample):

I wanted something a-line, soft and flowing. I bought a corseted, mermaid dress.

I wanted natural waisted ballgown.
Girlfriends pushed me into the mermaid direction, where I focused at least 3 bridal appointments, looking for a dress. But deep down inside, no matter how beautiful the mermaid dresses were, I knew it wasn’t me.
Ended up with organza ballgown (on an appointment I went to alone!).
I’ll get to wear her on Saturday! 🙂

This was one of my many loves and even a strong contender for a while, but I eventually decided it wasn’t a practical choice or very me. It was what I thought I wanted: fit and flare with a textured skirt.
This is what I bought instead:

I called about 10 bridal shops to try on a sample of this one:
But it wasn’t flattering on me and I ended up with this one (not without regret, though, unfortunately):

I just went dress shopping for the first time a few days ago. My wedding is still over a year away, so I just wanted to go and get ideas. I was originally thinking I wanted something lace, A-line, nothing that would emphasize my large hips or small boobs. I ended up buying this:
So different from anything I ever expected to wear, and I am so glad the lady pulled it for me to try on because I never would have picked it for myself.

I thought I wanted a mermaid or fit n’ flare, maybe like this
But this is what I walked away with, a satin ballgown
The biggest difference: I just felt like a bride in this gown.
