It depends on how you want it bustled. If you requested it where bottom gets brought up then yes this is the way to do it. HOWEVER, we always use clear buttons. If you’re not happy I would take it back and tell them.

For what it is worth, I don’t think anybody else is going to notice at all-but the thing is, you do, and you’re the only one that matters.

Though I’m sure no one else will notice, you paid for a service so you should be happy with it. Call and see if they can give you another option. Maybe they have white hooks or a totally different style buste that doesn’t use a metal hook.

Nope, not normal! I had white buttons and she sewed little white fabric loops. My skirt was white so it all blended in. They did a poor job. I would complain that you can see the hooks through the fabric and request it be redone with clear or light pink hooks so they cant be seen.

That would bother me too. My hooks were white I believe. I hope they fix it for you!

Can you just use white nail polish on the hooks? I am not sure if that would compromise how it works.

The nail polish on them is a huge improvement! I’m sorry it turned out this way; it’s definitely something that the seamstress should fix if you’re still unhappy with the way it looks. It’s too beautiful of a gown to have weird metal pieces on it like that!

mine were metal colored but i had an under bustle so nothing ever showed. it does look a lot better with the polish. if you’ve got a lot to worry about with the wedding, don’t sweat this – b/c on the day of, no one will notice this. they’ll be looking at your face and all your emotions!

Honestly on the day of you won’t be able to see it unless you know about it but even then there will be so many other things to focus on other than 2 tiny little hooks. You can always tell your photographer about it so they can either edit it out of photographs or be sure to try and avoid taking any pictures where it might be shown.

tinneranne2 :  is it normal to use metal hooks for a bustle? sure. but there are *tons* of dresses out there, and in some of them you’d never see it. so is it normal to use metal hooks on a dress like yours? no, it’s not. also, i think most of the time hooks are a crap way to do a bustle – they break easily, which is how come you hear about bustles breaking a lot. :/ buttons are far superior (imo) to hooks, and much more secure. the buttons on my bustle were clear, and the loops were made from white ribbon.
