i think you should look for a new job, and ttc when you are ready. there is no guarentee that either one will come easy.

I would wait until you’re a few months into your new job before TTC, so that you can be there a year before taking mat leave. If you’re thinking of starting a new job in January and also TTC around that same time, it’s only a difference of a few months.

That said, if you’re really miserable right now, I would also consider starting the job search right away.

ladyvictoria :  look for a new job and TTC on your current timeline. You really just do not know how long it will take and if you get pregnant soon after so be it – life happens and good employers understand that fact.

I was 8 MONTHS into TTC when I changed jobs. I was miserable but wasn’t sure about changing jobs at that time when an awesome opportunity (my current job) fell into my lap. I went for it, we kept TTC, and unfortunately for us still didn’t conceive for another 16 months (eventually via IVF). I would have kicked myself SO hard if I had stayed at my old job and took that long to get pregnant! We were young and healthy and had no reason to suspect we would struggle so hard to get pregnant, but it happens. We were in a situation where I would have been able to take unleave paid without ruining our finances if I had gotten pregnant sooner, but as it turns out I have been here long enough to get my full paid benefits (going out in a few weeks with my first) and I we can use that extra savings for something else.

ladyvictoria :  definitely start saving extra money now just in case. You’ll also kick yourself if you have to rush back to work before you’re ready because you don’t have paid leave and can’t live a few weeks without a paycheck!

ladyvictoria :  My job right now is quite uncertain-lots of changes ahead. The only thing that would make me hesitant about changing jobs is that I know short term disability policies vary from company to company and I know that I qualify for a full 6 weeks at my current job, where if you have less than 1 year of service, you get 1 week.

ladyvictoria :  With that, I would find a job that you love and TTC when you want.
