- Wedding: August 2013
Early on in my wedding planning, I booked a photographer. I was referred to her by the initial photographer I talked to (who was unavailable on our date). So I checked out this lady’s website, photos looked good, same style I was envisioning, and we met with her. We got our engagement photos done and I don’t love them. They’re okay, and I like the editing techniques she used, but the actual pictures we so-so (even with her giving us presumably the best 100 of the session on a cd, one of those my Fiance was out of focus in a posed shot!)
I wrote it off and decided I probably had my expectations too high, and was fully content using her for our wedding.
Now, weeks later she is being totally unresponsive. I realized after meeting her that this is an occasional side job or hers, mainly she is a stay at home Mom and doesn’t take on many many weddings so I get she has other priorities.
That being said, just because she handles a smaller volume I do not feel that the clients she DOES take on should get diminished service. (and her prices are right on par with the other, more seasoned wedding photographers in the area).
Neither one of these aspects would be enough for me to reconsider by themselves, but the fact that she is terribly hard to communicate with and I wasn’t thrilled with our engagement photos has me eyeing some other photographers I have since stumbled upon.
We would be out our initial deposit, but essentially that would go towards our engagement session we already had, so neither the photographer or I would be out any money / services performed.
Should I keep her or see if I can find someone else who still has availability for our date?
I have no intention of mentioning canceling to her until I decide for certain and then also have another photographer booked – I don’t want to risk not having anyone.
