@spicyshimmer:  Maybe a Mrs. So and So shirt, hoodie, etc. to get ready in if you want to go with the day of theme?  Also an emergency kit for the day of?

I have never been to a shower, but I thought the gifts were supposed to be for both bride and groom though.  So would it be weird if you just got her the hanger and stuff like that?  I honestly have no idea, so feel free to tell me if I’m wrong, lol.

@subola:  yeah I agree.

@spicyshimmer:  If the bride doesnt cook, then her FH probably does and those items on her registry will still get used by the couple. For the bridal shower, I would stick to the registry or just give cash and card tbh. Then for her bachelorette party I would do the hanger and other cute things just for her.

@spicyshimmer:  Haha.  I’m sure someone will chime in.  My bridal shower is coming up in June and I my Maid/Matron of Honor is putting our registry info in/on the invites for that.  The stuff we are registered for is for both of us together (i.e. kitchen appliences, bed set, etc.) so I think people will just go off of that for us.

You said she doesn’t really cook at all.  Did they register for a blender/do they drink or anything?  You could make some cute little gift “basket” :  blender with some drink mixes or somehting for entertaining?

Or if she really wants other stuff for the kitchen, get stuff that you know will get used whether she become suzy homemake or not:  i.e. nice spatula set, a nice pyrex dish, a measuring cup.  Things that they’d def. use.

I hope this helps!

@spicyshimmer:  Something like this maybe?  And if you want to go with the future Mrs. So and So maybe a personalized apron?  Like get a few utensils and a holder and then wrap them in the arpon.  Or even just gift the apron and put some utensils in the pocket?

And if you really want to personalize it – maybe get a recipe from some of the gals going (maybe one from each member of the wedding party) and do a little DIY recipe book?

shower gifts do not need to be for the couple. the tradition started to make sure that the bride would have the things she needs for the wedding to be able to take place. now it’s just a free for all. i registered with my Fiance for our wedding and used the same registry for my shower. most people did NOT get me things off of my registry. they chose money (YAY), gift cards (YAY), massage appointments (YAY), and household items that i registered for.  lingerie is appropriate if she likes that. i went to a shower recently where the bride did not register anywhere. she got a lot of lingerie and personal gifts (handbags, scarves, watches, etc.).

I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it was so thoughtful and fun, but rather than a basket, I would order her a cute tote bag with your friend’s new monogram on it (if she is taking a new last name) and pack all of the goodies in it!

You could also put in lingerie/fun bedroom toys (although maybe not if she’ll be opening the gift in front of family members), a cute beach towel if they’re going somewhere beachy, pretty sandals, an extra pair of sunglasses (I always lose/break mine on vacation and have to get a new pair), etc.

the last shower I was at all the bridesmaids did gift bag/baskets with a theme…

stocking the bar (different bottle of alcohol)

wedding night (massage lotion, candles, lingerie)

honeymoon (magazines/books, beach bag, towels)

kitchen (normal kitchen stuff)

at first I didn’t love it (those baskets are expensive to make! and time consuming so I think it was a lot to ask of them on top of standard Bridesmaid or Best Man duty)

@allyouneedislove:  My bridesmaids got together and gave me a honeymoon bag.  It was AWESOME… hanger, beach bag, towels, a frame engraved with our names/honeymoon location/weddingdate… and a few other things.  There were 5 of them so that helped, but it was so cute.

My Fiance and I are big fans of wine, so my bridesmaids incorporated that into a side gift for the shower. Each girl got a bottle of wine, and decorated it for us to open at a particular time during our first year of marriage. They then gave them to me one by one in front of everyone. The themes were:

  • Honeymoon
  • First homemade meal as husband and wife
  • My FI’s PhD graduation (decorated w/ the school colors)
  • Our first Christmas (complete with ornament balls hanging from the bottle neck!)
  • 1-year anniversay

They all attached a sweet note to the bottle. I am so not a crier, but man, I couldn’t help myself! It was one of the sweetest things ever, and I am so thankful for having such sweet, thoughtful best friends! And it will be something special to remember during our first year as a married couple 🙂

These are also VERY popular in my area for weddings (people put them on the sweetheart table or escort table at the reception and then display it in the home after … I gave one to my cousin in out of state, she LOVED it – they weren’t common where she lives.
