Also look at Bartram’s Garden.  Its a 5 min drive from cc, and they used to have a ferry service from walnut street (It’s on the other bank of the Schuyllkill)  It is the oldest bontanical garden in the US and has an old stone barn, carriage couse, and Swedish farm house as welll as a brick courtyard.

there’s a new place called "chestnut club" between 15th and 16th and chestnut. gorgeous, in a different and artsy sort of way. it reminded me of a speakeasy, because you don’t even know it’s there, tucked above the stores.

also, colonial dames. not very unusual, but pretty.

We got married on 6-June at the Moshulu – it’s a tall ship on the Delaware.  It’s quirky enough for us, but elegant enough for my mother 🙂  Good luck!

My wedding planner just told be about Elkins Estate right outside Philadelphia. It is simply GORGEOUS!!!!!!! They are starting to book weddings this fall and if I had known about it I would have definitely had my wedding there. I think it is a rare gem in the Philly area. (elkinsestate.org)

Take a look at Fonthill Castle Museum. It is 15 mins from CC, super easy to get to and amazing! We are getting married there on 10/4/09. The rental fee included the tent, chairs, everything ($1500 since we are getting married on a Sunday) and it is right near New Hope/Peddlers Village for restaurants. Also, the caterer is amazing. They were super open to working within our budget and were such nice people to work with (Memorable Affairs Catering.)

I am also looking for a unique venue in Philly. I saw Cairnwood and while I fell in love with the outside of the place, it would just not work for the amount of guests we are having. We have about 150 and even though the woman insisted it would be fine, I need a bit more space since none of my guests like to get up and mingle. I am also going to check out the Knowlton Mansion and the Kimmel Center.

For those of you that suggested either the FUEL house or PAFA any idea what their prices ranges are? I’m on a bit of a budget. And how to get in contact with them? I have sent several e-mails with no luck. Thanks all!! Smile

Thanks so much for the tip Gerbera. It looks absolutely gorgeous! But I think our rabbi might have a problem marrying us with all the crosses around.

If you are a sports fan, the Citizens Bank Ballpark has weddings.  I’ve been to 2 weddings there in the past year and they were great.  You have the whole stadium to yourself and the reception is in the Diamond Club which is very nice.

Also, how about the Spirit of Philadelphia or the Queen Anne?? Just suggestions.

Good luck and let us know where you choose!

So turns out FUEL house is not available for our date. sad. But I just looked into Elkins Estate and it really is super gorgeous! So my new thoughts are Chestnut Club, Knowlton Mansion or Elkins Estate. Let’s just hope they are as beautiful as they look on-line and at least one fits into my budget!

So I finally got in touch with the Chestnut Club after several failed email and phone attempts. The woman who I spoke to on the phone informed me that the price is actually 2 grand more than I was quoted originally by email. She said she is the owner and that prices haven’t been set yet but that is how much she expects it to be. I asked if anything could be done to get that price closer to the originally price I was quoted since I was planning on booking very far in advance. She then told me probably not because she is the owner and it would mean she would have to cancel her vacation. First of all I was told the venue was available for my date. I do not understand why the price would be bumped up due to her vacation if the place is considered available for that date. She seemed very flaky. Not a great first impression. Thus I have decided to drop that venue from the list of places I am considering.

Ok I know I am pretty much talking to myself at this point. But I did want to share some news. I have narrowed my venue search down to two. That is right. TWO. Feels great! So our options are Pen Ryn or Elkins Estate. Both are gorgeous and I could picture myself dancing at my wedding. And they fit within our price range! Hopefully we will have our venue booked by the end of September 🙂

That’s great starcharades! I’ve seen pictures of both and they both looked great. The packages I saw from Pen Ryn looked pretty reasonable. I’m still in the middle of my venue search so I always love to hear places local brides love!
