A little background on our ceremony: A dear friend is preforming our outdoor wedding ceremony. We asked him because we knew it would take the responsibility very seriously. (He has never preformed a wedding ceremony before, but is a public speaker, so we knew he would be comfortable and collected in front of a crowd.) He recently visited us (we live across the country) and asked to spend time with each of us separately to gain a unique understanding of our thoughts on marriage, commitment, etc. as well as to obtain fun stories about our relationship. 🙂 We found that a common theme came through during the conversations which led us to select a “theme” (I am using theme loosely here) for the ceremony. Basically, his “message” during the ceremony will play on the fact that my Fiance and I are both unique individuals and who we are as individuals has made us strong as a couple. The strengths that each of us has to offer make the relationship strong and will help it continue to grow… yada yada…
So now to the sand ceremony. In sticking with the theme, we plan to have a non-traditional sand ceremony. Basically, we’d like each of our parents to come up with individual vials of sand representing them as individuals and what they offer as individuals helping to shape our lives as their children (so essentially my mother and father would pour their sand into a vile that I am holding and my FIs mom and dad would pour their sand into the vile he is holding). From that point we’d like to turn around to a larger bowl and each pour our viles of sand in at the same time repepsenting the different individuals who helped us become the people we are and all that we can offer to the new family my Fiance and I are creating on our wedding day. (Hopefully that made sense.)
In looking on-line, there is not language to be found that represents the concept we are going for. I am reaching out to the Bee Board to see if anyone has come across or used language for a similar type of sand or candle ceremony that might work for this. Thank you so much!
