For our September wedding we decided to choose a boat as our venue. Yes, we start on Chicago River and go to Lake Michigan. As everybody knows Chicago is a Windy City…I have a question should we have our ceremony while the boat is moving or should we stop the boat at the location we want have a ceremony and the continue moving after ceremony is done?
Advice Please 🙂

You think we should stop on the River or Lake?

Lake michigan is beautiful..I’ve seen it from the Chicago side, I’m not sure about the river, do you have google pictures or something you can show of the area? Where would you prefer?

I would say stop the boat for the ceremony. It will be too distracting to have it while it’s moving because the scenery will be changing, and there may be a little swaying, and there’s the sound of the motor and the water and whatnot.

Chicago River from the top.
I was thinking of choosing a stop on the River, infront of one of the bridges with beautiful buildings around have a ceremony there and then continue moving towards the lake.
Zusie: I think you right, I am affraid if we will be moving guest might be distracted too.

I would say definitely stop. Although, I get very seasick, so I’d probably have to decline the invite.

The river is really calm and beautiful. The buildings kind of protect you from the wind but it might be distracting for the guests with the constantly changing beautiful architecture in the background of your ceremony (I know I would!), so I would recommand stopping during the ceremony so the guests can focus on YOU rather than the panorama.
The lake is incredibly gorgeous, but it is kind of like the ocean. As in very windy and big waves that you can feel even on a pretty steady boat. Not exactly ideal for the ceremony.
