I’m new to this site and am absolutely obsessed with it already!!! My BF of 5 yrs and I are not yet engaged – he’s found the ring but is saving to get it while finishing school. I’m the planner of the 2 and started my research earlier this year after we decided that we’re definitely getting married in 2 years (2013). Originally, we were planning to get married in Puerto Rico, as that’s where my mom’s side of the family is from and where all of my extended family still lives. My dad and BF’s family is from the Dominican Republic and flights to/from DR and PR are MUCH cheaper than flying to NYC. After many discussions, we realized that we may need to also look at NYC options, as our parents/siblings who live in NYC may not be able to afford traveling to PR for a wedding and we definitely cannot afford to pay for everyone to go. So basically I’m researching for 2 possible wedding locations at the moment!
I’m looking for some suggestions for venues with a Latin/Spanish flare (NYC – all 5 boroughs, NJ, Westchester, etc). The venues we were considering in PR were all very old-world Spanish colonial (1 was a hacienda and 1 was a restored convent) since we didn’t want the typical “beach” wedding. But we’re also looking for that sexy Miami Latin vibe. I’ve just started looking in NYC and am coming up blank. We’re definitely not the traditional catering hall type and are open to unique venues IE: raw spaces, restaurants, clubs/lounges, but I’d consider a venue that’s more traditional if it has the Spanish flare we’re looking for. I’ve actually found 2 places in Long Island along these lines but they’re out of our price range – The Douglaston Manor and the Vanderbilt Museum. Our budget is $15 – $20K, 125 ppl. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!!!
