My mom always gets brides the same thing …. she buys every single oxo (http://www.oxo.com) item on their registry (and some of her favorites even if they didnt register for them) and then picks a cute containter that they either registered for or that matches their other kitchen items.  I’ve seen four brides receive this gift and all of them loved it!  Oxo is the best and I hope I get something similar for my shower!

I like themed gifts — a laundry basket filled with all the linens from the registry, for example.  For my sister’s shower, I asked each Bridesmaid or Best Man to bring a few miscellaneous items, and we tossed them in a box wrapped like the ones on TV for easy opening.  Some of those kitchen tools turned out to be my sister’s faves!

my sisters are planning a "panty" shower for me.  each guest will bring one (or more!) pairs of panties as a gift.  obviously, this will not be the shower that my grandmother attends πŸ™‚  i can’t wait for new underwear!

The last shower that I attend had a "date night gift" theme. Which, even for a regular shower is really cute. The bride received cooking classes and a night out at a chocolate place where the couple will get to make their own pound of fancy chocolates– naming them and all– which very unique.

i once went to a shower where all the guests (all female of course) brought family recipes for the bride. they ranged from entrees to desserts to even cocktails! she wasn’t great in the kitchen before she got married, but now she loves to host dinners at their house!

I got my bf’s sister and brother in law matching personalized aprons and a newlyweds cookbook.  I stitched "Mr. ___" & "Mrs._____" on them.  Everyone loved them and there were a lot of "oooh’s" and "ahhh’s."

I got this for my wedding, but loved the idea.  It would make a great shower gift- and depending on how you did it, could be pretty inexpensive.

Friends gave us a dozen Christmas ornaments that (according to what they said) are good luck on the newlywed tree according to German tradition. For example- a house ornament for shelter and protection, a teapot for hospitality, a fruitbasket for generosity, etc.

Many of the ornaments were from Etsy, but all were thoughtful.

I loved the effort the giver put into picking out a dozen ornaments as well as the card explaining the gift.  This year when we put up our tree it was wonderful to remember the wedding.

If you can’t read the card in the photo- I’d be happy to give out the list- just PM me.

I liek to theme gifts based on the bride’s personality. For my sister, I’m thinking of doing a honeymoon theme, once she picks her destination! πŸ™‚

I’m also one of those who likes to receive a themed gift based around one or two items from the registry. It’s so fun to get something that’s part items I knew I wanted and partially something that the giver put thought into pairing with it. A favorite was a group of kitchen items I’d registered for tucked into a beautiful picnic basket with one of the giver’s favorite cookbooks and bottles of wine. Loved it!

For an engagement theme gift, I themed the present around the proposal.

The guy proposed with a Tiffany ring at Fenway park. So I did a Tiffany/diamond and baseball/Fenway theme!

I included scrapbook stickers related to rings, engagements, baseball and a Jolee’s Fenway park embellishment. I added a Lolita martini glass with diamonds all over it. The DVD Breakfast at Tiffanys. A mini baseball picture frame, A Wedding Planning Organizer, Bridal Magazines, and I think thats it. Here is a picture!

Then I wrapped everything in white and Tiffany blue to tie in the look. I also had a fake diamond engagement ring to use as an embellishment on one of the gifts. You can get them at AC Moore for $1.99/pack of 6.

I like themed shower gifts, too.  My sister was taken a Hawaiian honeymoon (so we had a luau themed shower).  I got her a big beach bag with lots of little stuff for her honeymoon (bathing suits, sunscreens, reading books, massage oils…I put stuff in there for her husband, too).  It was a huge hit!

We haven’t had any showers yet, but I know that one of FMIL’s friends will give us her signature gift: a large salad bowl and tongs.  She crumples up dollar bills and places them in the bowl to look like "lettuce."  I think this is a cute idea and can’t wait to see what others come up with!

I have loved giving (and been given) a movie night/date night themed basket: "popcorn bowl" (Williams-Sonoma has some cute ones), bags of popcorn to pop (you could also put some great gourmet popcorn in), the salt/pepper shakers we registered for, and Blockbuster cards or a Netflix gift subscription.
