okay, so I’m having a hard time deciding what type of favors to have at our wedding.
First of all, I really want to avoid food if possible. I just think it’s over done, and besides, there’s already so much food at a wedding anyway — appetizers, dinner, cake, and cookies (I live in Pittsburgh and am Slovak/Polish/Croatian, so cookies are a HUGE part of any wedding … I mean, like, HUNDREDS of cookies).
I also want something that’s sort of uniqe AND functional. I thought about candles or glasses or keychains, stuff like that, but I’m finding it to be really expensive. I thought there were places that sold favors like that in bulk, but apparently not.
And I know I’m sounding really picky here, but we’re kind of having a penguin “themed” wedding so I’d like to incorporate that if we could. (it’s not going to be over the top, just small penguin “touches.”
Does anyone have any ideas or good websites to visit?
It’s not like there’s any rush b/c we’re probably not getting married for another 2 or so years but I’d like to buy things little by little so the expenses are spread out and easier to handle.

There are a few penguin gift related websites you can google:
I thought this was cute (a magnet, but you could also do a coaster):

Check out oriental trading- they will probably have something cute in bulk at good prices. Another option could be Taylor Gifts, altho they don’t sell in bulk.

There is also a wine called the little penguin, but I don’t know if thats a cheap favor:

Ok, I know it is a little weird but check this out.
My friend had these as her only favors at her wedding and they were so AMAZING! Everyone grabbed one off the table and used it as their beer cup (Not sure if you are having beer) but either way they were a hit! People loved them! Theirs hadtheir names, a picture that went with their theme and their wedding date.
EDIT: They change colors when they get cold! PERFECT for penguin theme

I love birdseed favors. I realize penguins don’t eat bird seed, but you could put a penguin on the tag? These are SUPER easy to DIY at home and they’ll be very inexpensive. Just google how to do it, there’s tons of info.

Maybe something like this would be cute…
I have seen these were you can get custom text on the black part.

I generally try to stay away from favors with the bride and grroms’ names/picture/wedding date/whatever. I mean, who is actually going to use a coaster or ornament or magnet or whatever with someone else’s wedding info? I wouldn’t call that functional.

We did can koozies. They were super inexpensive and you get to use your own artwork. They came to about $.50 a piece. That was at discountfavors.com. I wish I would have taken a picture of them. They came out great. We got 300 of them for about $140.

I have a couple DIY ideas. You could make your own stamps? When I was in middle school, our art teachers used to give us rubber erasers (the gray square kind) and then we would carve different designs into them. You could make stamps with two penguins kissing. =) Or you could buy shot/wine/champagne glasses in bulk and hand paint them. Or you could make penguins out of modeling clay/play dough?

I don’t know where you’d find them, but penguin shaped guest soaps would be a super cute idea. You could even DIY them if you’re into that kinda thing.

I would skip favors if you don’t want to do something edible. I think the penguin theme is cute, but I would never (ever) put something cutesy and penguin-y out in my house…especially if it had someone’s wedding info on it. I think favors are pretty much a waste of money.

@crayfish:Agreed. I’m not doing favors because I know I’m one of those people that really has no use for personalized wedding things, they end up collecting dust somewhere!
